I put £20 in it yesterday (15.9 litres), have done less than 30 miles since filling and the car is already back to saying 1/4 of a tank

How about this for some b.s - I took a mate home yesterday at about 1:00am and he lives in the middle of nowhere, so after I dropped him off and was going home there's just a really long straight road with nothing on it.

Car is pushing about 100mph, for about 45 seconds and the fuel needle dropped from 1/4 tank to the halfway point between 1/4 and 0.


WTF back at you!

Seems that cars don't like speed.
Not doing that again, probably cost me £10.
So that was me wasting £10 in less than a minute.

Give me a shout in a few years when you're swapping the Furby I got too used to a 110bhp Octavia TDI when learning to drive, could just put my foot down and the acceleration was somewhat effortless! The Ibiza just feels so laboured in comparison.

But yeah I know what you mean, these little engines don't like sitting at high revs for very long it seems! I travel from Stockport to Leeds and back once a month, and there's a massive difference in mpg if I stick in the outside lane at ~60mph, rather than middle/outside lane at ~80.

BTW Kidinspace - I signed up to Fuelly, I've averaged 35mpg over the last 500 miles... is that remotely similar to what you get?

Hey sorry for the late reply, it's the interior light from the mk1 Skoda Octavia, and the Fabia (I think)
I did find a few in scrap yards for about a fiver.
Simple to fit, just plug and play - exact same size, just has map reading lights either side.

Easy enough, ten mins tops. Most of the trim pulls off, the part round the seat belt has three philips screws holding it on. The only part to watch out for is the parts that are near the seal on the boot, make sure the seal is back on correctly so the boor door doesn't leak.

From other reading on the Mk4 forum I've seen that the battery voltage can effect the power steering. Now I don't have a the light coming on in the instrument cluster.

So do I need a new battery?
Where is the power steering reservoir? - I can't find it!!

It could be the battery or the load signal wire from those codes. I'd try a visual inspection of the load signal wire first.

The power steering reservoir is at the bottom right of the engine bay (as you look at the car from the front), quite far down near the bottom of the car, forward of where the airbox would be if it wasn't a 1.2 and forward of where the battery is located. Should have a green coloured cap on it.

It's a stupid place to put the reservoir, I can't get the cap off mine, it's stuck on! And access to it is so tight that I can't really get myself in a position to swing on it!

I may just get round to ordering those somewhat sooner now!

My front right tyre had a lump in it and this was causing my lumpy steering.
Two new tyres and a laser alignment later and all is good.
Topped up the level on the steering fluid as well as it was a little low.

As you can see from the printout above my alignment was so far out it was nearly off the scale. Once the guy had aligned it he'd said it was one of the few Ibiza's he'd seen that was actually straight. Most of the time they leave the factory with the rear axle slightly more over to the passenger side hence why they all pull to the left.

Gave the car a wash too.

Also decided I wanted a bit more induction noise so I added some more holes to the air feed pipe on the bottom of the engine cover. I know this is only going to create a little more noise as these holes are before the air filtetration so won't effect my fueling and so on...

The guy that done that alignment is a VAG fan and as plenty experience with VAG stuff, he's seen all the usual issues with these cars over the years.

Although it is quite far away, it is good to know that there is a garage that knows their stuff on these cars thats not a huge distance from me.
