And here I am on the verge of deciding between an Alfa 147 gta and an LCR. After doing a search here on the GTA and reading the tales of poor unreliability and bits falling off etc which was ,in the most part pure speculation, it was Seat CupraR all the way. Now i'm not too sure.

I think it could be Alfa number 4 for me then.

Pssst, Don't tell anyone but I would go for the Alfa.....Just the little matter of four and a half grand price difference that swayed me to the LCR. I do miss that engine sound!

Anyhoo the LCR is a Fab car and to be honest bar the squeaky when wet rear suspension mine (touch wood) has been problem free and good fun!! Well apart from the 'Kin ar*eholes who keep putting scratches and dents in it.
Ya won't be disapointed either way.

1. Lots of rattles (see under old Cupra R section for details).
2. Faulty inner door seal.
3. Gear lever knob erosion (again, see under old CR section).
4. Poorly fitting interior trim, some replaced under warranty.
5. Creaking rear suspension (especially when wet).
6. Horn went monotone.
7. Jacking point cover fell off - went out of shape.
8. Passenger seat adjuster forward/back adjuster seized.
9. Water leak (serious - 5 cm deep) in driver's footwell (warranty door seal repair).
10. Water leak (minor but annoying) next to bonnet pull lever.
11. Smelly carpet due to 10.
12. CUPRA badge loses black lettering.
13. Instrument panel bulb (LED?) failures.
14. Seriously maladjusted suspension, leading to very premature replacement of two tyres. (I should have checked them more often, and paid attention to the inside shoulders! - also, the car was 'nervous' at very high speed).
15. Utterly cr*p factory fit stereo/CD changer - sounds like a drowned rat.
16. Rear seats not fitted properly - annoying rattle.
17. Windscreen cracked and replaced (stone damage).
18. Missing retaining clips on gear change cables (at gearbox end).

Some of the above has been fixed under warranty, some is waiting to get done and some I fixed myself...

Rear bumper - Replaced.
Drivers Door Alignment Crap - Fixed by dealer, just needed the striker plate adjusting
Delivery Wax/Goo on paint - Wasn't washed properly at the dealers.

Arguably all of these things should of been picked up during PDI.. I see some other people have had shall we say indifferent PDIs ? I guess you could say there is no excuse for this.. but.. look at it from the dealers point of view, they've sold a car, the customer has arranged to pick it up on a certain date, sorted their insurance switch, arranged finances etc.. if the car only arrives at the dealer with a couple of days spare there may not be time to fix any niggles.. so what does the dealer do ? delay the pick up or let the customer come get it and bring it back later ?
That said theres no excuse for stuff like crappy door alignmnet, I could almost get my fingers underneath the doorskin, blatantly obvious, but it still must of missed QA at the factory and then PDI...

I've had my Toledo since December - but have always driven Jap cars before the Seat.

As I became more and more addicted to this (and other Seat/VW) forums, I started to think, have I made a mistake ... I've never heard of such problems on a Nissan or Toyota.

So last week I thought maybe I should switch back ..... went for a test drive in a (highly reviewed and rated) 02 model Corolla 1.6 T3 ....

Yes, it was smooth ... and yes it would no doubt be soooo reliable .... but boy was it bland and boring ..... fit and finish was smart but it had no 'feel good factor' whatsoever, no style and no creature comforts ... 10grand and no cruise, climate, 6 cd, armrest, puddle lamps etc etc (it had 2 'cupholders' which were just 'holes' by the gearlever ..).

So summary ... owning a Seat is an allround experience ... problems are rare to be honest ..and most are 'known'..and with solutions.

I dont think I could own anything else now. Every time I sit in my car (especially with the red light ambience at night), I'm happy I own a Seat. Yes, maybe an Audi or BMW would be an upgrade ... but at great cost (and they no doubt have their own set of issues).

Dont forget there's the mods. Small or large, there is so much potential to personalise the car. How many forum discussions do you see about an Avensis, Corolla, Primera, Marea, Vectra etc...

Lets not get too disheartened (or put off) by some of the content in this thread. Seat ownership is an allround great experience (imho).

Another thing I have noticed is that the resale value of (esp diesel) Seats is pretty damn good - they do have a (cult ??) following. Hence, if in doubt, just try one. If you dont like it, sell it on. That was the approach I took with mine. And i'm sticking with mine for a while yet.

This thread is the worst of the worst - hence title "LCR what problems have you had on yours ? "

If you consider that there are probably over 3000 on the road now and over 150 owners of them on here, and yet this is all thats posted as being wrong then they are probably a better proposition than most alterantives - if there are any that give the same pace and value for money.

They are great, i just think there is much scope for improvement in the aftersales department from most dealers.

Its infering that becasue thats all the problems that havew been posted out of 3000 cars on the road then thats all the problems that there have ever been.

Maybe that is all the problems that have ever been on LCRs and this forum has managed to get the unlucky batch with all the niggles.

And lets face it most of the problems are niggles. The biggest problem is not the car its the useless dealers not beaing able to sort the problems.

you on the backy tonight

150+ LCR owners on here and only a handful have had serious mechanical / bodywork faults, like you say the rest are niggles and dealers.

I was highlighting the fact that the car is excellent out with the minor niggles, and not to get hung up about major faults as all manufacturers have them - some will have more and some less.

For a top of the range Seat sporting car in the 'mass' production range it is only to be expected that some will have a few problems. If this had been a what goes wrong with your Porsche thread then it may have had zero replies - eh ?

NO you miss the point - again !

Are you suggesting it's only older Porsches that have faults, i don't go on Porsche forums simply because i don't have one (not that i don't want one, just can't afford one) anyway i find it hard to believe from your insuation that there are no faults on new Porsches ;) :D

Lets try and keep this thread for the owners of LCRs that have or have had issues on their own cars - thanks.
