Out of interest do you get the same effect if if you take a side on pic?? - I know camera flash can have strange affect on metalic finishes

For those who requested - Day, night and side photo's.

Whatever the light the difference in paint is highly noticeable.

Seat customer services are aware of this issue, I am just awaiting their response.

Paint colour looks completely different at night albeit the same in the day.

Just took a couple of pictures of my Luna FR with the flash which might come in use when arguing the toss with SEAT. - From the one's I've taken the colour looks the same (to me anyway).

Hi Sven7,

My hubby has taken a look at your pic's and he has said he can see the difference in paint shade but it does not appear to be as bad as my FR example.

By the way he has worked in the motor manufacturing industry for 20 years and is also qualified in paint and body repair.

My hubby says that the reason for the difference in colour is due to the bumpers being manufactured and painted by an outsourced supplier, i.e not at the factory. My hubby says to put it into context, if you buy a tin of paint from B & Q for your house or even a tin of car spray paint from halfords you will have many colours to choose from, but if you buy 2 or more of the same colour, code etc, etc but from different batches you will invariably end up with a result which unless mixed prior to application highlights the difference between the two batches. The same has occurred with my FR, although the bumpers are of the same colour their is a distinctive difference between the paint used by the bumper manufacturer compared with the paint Seat are using in production.

Hope this makes sense.

He should also have access to an electronic device that measures reflective light? - most paint manufactures have one we used them when painting weapon systems [ had a simlar problem] with a paint supplier.
Dulux have a simlar device when you go a get paint matched at one of they colour mixing stations.

is the diff in colour due to the effect of the paint on plastic / metal or diff paint batch?

Wow, that looks pretty bad.

I have a MK3 Ibiza Cupra and the front bumper didn't look great when I first got it. But the same thing happened as regarding your bumpers. I was told the bumpers got sprayed somewhere else rather than at the big factory. Thankfully, the difference on mine was never much to get excited about.

k4ith,

thanks for going to all the trouble taking pic's for comparison. There is a difference in the colour of your FR's bumpers but it appears slight.

Like my hubby said it is down to the simple fact that Seat (and not just Seat!) bumper manufacture is processed off the main manufacturing plant, although using the same colour, the bumper manufacturers are using different paint batches = crap paint matching[:@]

OLDOILER; My hubby is aware of the device you mention but the device normally associated with automotive paint is one that measures paint thickness. If there was an issue with "mottled" (patchy) paint finish on the bumpers of my FR then he would have utilised this device. My hubby stands by his opinion in that the problems with the paint on my bumpers is directly linked to different batched paint.

Well it could not get any worse.

Took the day off work today to celebrate my daughters 3rd birthday, went to collect her birthday cake, came back to my FR and some T****R has reversed into the rear quarter of my car:censored: :censored: :censored:

The damage is a scored bumper and wheel arch, The bumper is hopefully going to get repainted under warranty due to the difference in shade, but the wheel arch I'll have to cough up out of my own pocket:(

Sometimes I often wonder wether it is worth all the expense to have a nice new car for some F:censored: B:censored: low life with probably no insurance or road tax to drive around and cause so much grief to us honest road users who pay our way[:@] [:@] [:@]

Ah ok, well nothing suprises me with Listers anymore im afraid, if you want to see what they are like just search for them, and you will see many a sad story either by myself or others.

Oh and if and when they sort it out, give me the reg number, i have a friend who works there, and will get him to keep an eye on it for you, as some of the guys have a tendency to take customers cars out and abuse them if you get my drift.
