35-38mpg seems to be the normal on a flat piece of autobahn at normal speeds, depending on slip streaming, wind direction etc.

Revo has made the car a lot better on this though. Not need to thrash the bollocks off it etc, just a little brush of the throttle required.

Warren's just posted a video of the back half of my 4-up lap round the ring (not going 'fast' or anything) - currently watching this in McDonalds, so apologies if I am speaking with my usual monotone!

Good to see you're still rolling Mark! You lucky bugger, it feels like we have been back for too long already!

We had to whip the @r$e off the Audi back from Strasbourg to Calais as we miscalculated timings. Thought we needed 4 hours, but sat nav calculated the journey as 401 miles and 5 and a half hours. We eventually did it in 4 and a half including tolls and stops!!

€45 of toll roads later and we were queuing for a Sea France ship that was going nowhere!

Here are a few more pics of the Leon in convoy on route:

Hairpins are OK, if a little tiring after a couple of hours driving

Anyway, enough Austrian stuff, I'll be here tomorrow :) http://1photoblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/lake-garda-malcesine-italy.jpg

Worth noting that the 'avoid motorways' is the best thing ever when you don't have timescales or more than 200miles to do!

Weather looks great, quite jealous of you going to Lake Garda, I was there in Septeber for the first time and thought it was amazing. Will definetly be back. Though the Italians drive a bit mad, even compared to the Irish!!!

Did I forget to say I've been a total geek & brought my GPS tracker with me for the whole journey?

Speed / Altitude etc all logged & plotted on google earth :)

Nice roads and reminds me of the bike trips over there.

Have fun and watch for any 'paddling' Italian Ducati's round the hairpins if you go up Stelvio.

Weather can be a bit touch and go so bikes may not be an issue if you get there.

Enjoy.

Hmmmmm

the Blueflame exhaust is clanking on the rear beam when laden & going over 'rough' ground (am in France now)

I might have to adjust it with a hammer when I get home I think.

In the world of the toolbox the hammer is king!

Can't believe you are still in Europe! We've been back, fantasized about being away, forgotten it and are now focussed on the next one to keep us sane!!! As you in Strasbourg now (pray for your sake it's in the centre if you are!)

Not even in Strasbourg yet!

Ran from Lake Garda to Konstanz yesterday via 5 countries, that took about 8hrs, and was the worst day of driving yet, with some miserable Italian motorways & dull Swiss country roads, only briefly interspersed with an excellent hill climb up to San Bernardino Tunnel

Today was a lot quicker, and was just a drive across Switzerland, via Germany & into Mulhouse :)

Tomorrow, back into Germany (free Autobahn) to Strasbourg early doors.

Friday, Strasbourg to Portsmouth :) not looking forward to that drive though!

Strasbourg to Calais was planned to be nearly 5 hours on nav (without stops for bogs, fuel and tolls). Tedious is not the word. We were very lucky the roads were quiet enabling us to do the 396 miles in 3 hours and 55 minutes (actual time on the road driving - not including stops).

The S3 really earned its tints and a well earned rest when it got back!!!

All the best for the last legs of the journey, and watch out for the plod (they seemed to be on holiday when we went up).

We'll probably nip north & avoid France for the tolls :)

Have been mostly good with speeding, except yesterday in Italy where it was clear that the foreigners sat in the fast lane, and go through all the speed cameras :)

Slight bit of derestricted today in Germany stretched the legs of an otherwise uneventful 38mpg day.
