Mk2 Ibiza Cupra 16v 1998 (s reg) Brakes

Some websites selling disks, say they are 256mm, and some say 280mm, most say both........

Which are they?

I tried searching but theres alot of talk of brakes, and i think the brakes on these cars changed in 97.

Thanks!

Also what are the best pads and disks to get?
I was thinking Blackdiamond drilled and grooved, and EBC Greenstuff pads....

The fronts are 280mm. But make sure that you get the 4 stud version (100x4), as most places sell the 5 stud versions only.

Don't quote me on it but as far as EBC stuff goes, the general idea seems to be stay WELL CLEAR of their stuff. AS their discs warp and brake pads make tons of brake dust.

Peoples favourites seem to be the brembo plain discs (but Badger Bill is trying to make some grooved ones), with a set of Padgid FR or Ferrodo DS2500 pads.

As already ,mentioned, hardly anyone decent makes the grooved/ Xdrilled discs for 16v's any more. ATE used to make the powerdiscs, and Brembo used to make the Maxi's, but both have stopped making them now in the 4x100 fitment

Personally I'm waiting on Bill ("IbizaCupra"), to get some Plain brembo's grooved. So you could go on his section of the forum and give him a nudge to see if he has made any more progress ;)

Look for zimmerman discs with padgid fast road pads.

This is the best combination and one that a lot of my mates run with. May mean im biased but for the range of cars its running on youd understand!

The brakes on my 16v are 280mm, a bit of info for you all!!!

This is a G60 set up from VW, used on golf and corrado G60's and many others!! Very good set up personally!

Many different types mate, its all down to personall preference, use a few different combo's untill your happy. Thats what i did, i found some pads wore out quickly or didnt respond to longer harder braking sessions, and some did. I didnt spend mega money on pads, because the siza of the brakes are adequate to the size of the car.

Your not stopping a house, its an Ibiza!

Just wondering Ben, where did you get your Zimmerman discs from? And how much were they??

BTW Jamin Berry, don't worry mate, the EBC's aren't that bad really, they are still gonna perform better then your standard ones would. Its just that you can get brakes that perform better, for less.

I use a place called Arnie Levics in street. I get all my stuff from there mainly because they are so close and know exactly what i want!!!

Think they were around the £30 mark, cant remember if thats pair or per disc!!

I know in PVW, Golf + etc there's always adverts for zimmerman stuff, iv got the drilled and vented ones as gets rid of the heat perfectly, worked a treat for me in germany!

I use Arnie's in street but GSF you can use and it looks like awesome GTI do them as well.

Grab a PVW and look at the adverts, if they say they dont do them for a seat, ask for VW Corrado *spelling* G60 ones or VW Golf Rallye. Either or, they are all exactly the same! 280mm and your laughing.

Where are you based as could sort some out for you tommorow if needs be, iv got a spare set of brand new padgid fast road pads in my room!

In the lake district! Im off tomo too. I know what you look like aswell!

Do you have any links to places that sell them that you know of? also, ill cancel my orders now...

That was very early on the first da of the ring' trip!!! Very early start!!

Gwent VW do as well but its worth ringing up about it as you can explain to them exactly what you need.

Gwent VW - 01663 214333
http://www.gsfcarparts.com/contact/branches.asp - Find your nearest and ring them up.

I'm trying, like you said its hard work!!!

I can give you the padgid part number for the pads if you need it.

Lol Ben,

Looks like you got your self in a bit of a pickle by saying they are easy to find/get

I had a search thought about 5 PVW/Golf+ mags and couldn't find anything, except for "Volkspares" having the zimmermann logo, but not mentioning anything on their website. If you ever find out how much you paid for your discs, cold you PM me a rough price you'd send them (without P&P).

Cheers, appreciated

For the time being I'm gonna keep searching the net if there are any places with the zimmermanns. I did find a Porsche website selling them (for Porsche's only ofcource), which is always a good sign.

I'll pop over to him tommorow and find out if he could, or how much it'd be for me to send them to you. I think getting on the phone is gonna be the best bet, anywhere that displays the logo for zimmerman will be able to help, hard to list all brake types in one advert,

And yes, i do seem to have got myself into a pickle!!!!!
