Hi there mate,

I am pretty new to the LCR fan club and I have recently bought a standard example myself about 4 weeks ago now.
I have been reading through all your posts and I like the mod's you have done to your LCR.
I reckon in a few weeks when I have a bit of spare money I will embark on some mod’s myself. Maybe, FMIC, Sports cat and exhaust, Remap, Etc.
I was just wondering if you could explain to me what they actually mean by hybriding a turbo and what sort of HP gains do you get from it and is it a cheaper way of getting the LCR's power nearer to 300HP than a BT conversion????
Also you mention 'logging' quite a lot. How do you do the logging and do you have the details on what I could do to do the same on my LCR????

Cheers mate.

Thanks for the comments Jabre. :)

When they hybrid a turbo they remove all of the internals and uprate these installing a higher flowing compressor wheel, trimmed turbine wheel, high performance bearings and in some cases a slightly reworked housing which allows for slightly higher boost and, I believe, quicker spool up.

TBH 300bhp should be achieveable, i think, on a standard K04 as I currently run Custom Code stage 1 and on my best logging session made approx 280bhp so stage 2 I reckon would be just shy of 300bhp.

Finally logging is done via VAG-COM, a VAG diagnostic PC application, and you measure certain attributes and the application then records these and presents them in a spreadsheet format when complete. From these logs you can tell, for example, if you car is over boosting/under boosting, over fueling/under fueling so on and so forth.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the info. Mate and yes it does certainly clarify things for me. I will keep you posted on the mod’s and development I do to my car in the weeks to come.

Cheers.

Looking great mate, some good mods there, and good power etc...Also like the fact that she looks pretty standard, so bit of a sleeper, if lcr's could ever be called sleepers that is!?:D Interesting about the bmc, as I was going to buy one, but I think the powertec is the way forward now, especially as you say they don't need oil sprayed on them, as I fried the maf on my vr6 golf when I put a pipercross on it, and sprayed too much oil on the filter!! Doh!!:D

Well i'm down for the AMD RR day on 20th Sep, I will make it this time, so make sure you come down and watch it explode in a ball of fire......LOL!!:D

Hey another former VR6 owner.........where you on VR6OC by any chance????
Cheers for comments also. :)

Yeah, I was on there dude, think I was either jambondrums or jambonvr6 if my memory serves me correctly!! Great cars, but I must admit, apart from the noise and the interior, (had heated leather in mine), I think the lcr is a much better car!!:D Amd rolling road day? Is that at thurrock? I shall have to pop along if there's room!!

Well thought it was about time for a little update as its been a while as its taken bit of a backseat lately due to all the baby stuff/scans going on & working obsence hours!

So since my last update I had been suffering with intermittent boost issues where one minute it would boost rather strongly but then the next you could hear the turbo spooling but there was no boost to be had.
After a bit of fiddling around tracked it down to a faulty N75 and the hose running from actuator to N75 had a tiny split in it which I guess got worse as the boost was piled on. So I replaced the hose and N75, although this now means I'm running a stock N75 at the mo not an ECS one like before, and when funds allow need to get another ECS one as love the extra spike these give.

Next as I polished my charge pipe some time ago I set about polishing my inlet manifold which kind of stood out like a sore thumb next to the nice shiney charge pipe.
Now I remember Skorchio telling me at one time at a meet how much of a mare it was to get rid of the seam along the front of manifold and boy was he right!
Took me a good few days of hard elbow grease to remove that seam and then sanded down with progessively finer grades of wet & dry until 2000g and then gave it a good going over with autosol.
I also thought that every one goes for the fully polished manifold if getting it done so thinking back my VR6 days I decided to polish the many body and then the stems running to the body I sprayed with a high temp matt black paint.

So here is the finished results, bear in mind all done by hand no machines involved at all, and I must say I pretty pleased and has an almost flawless mirror shine to it.

Also removed the extended oil filler cap neck as I'm never going to go back to an engine cover so this kind off stuck out and also reverted back to my Powertec regardless of the horror stories I had heard about filteration with them. Kind of like the 'Eating to many Polo's will give you Cancer' story from a few years back........:D

Yea boost is all sorted just want an ECS N75 back on as it feels like the car pulls a lot harder.........or maybe just in my head not sure.

As for N249 look again and you may find its not connected......... ;) Its a Mr Wookie special! :)

Nah what I've done is to run the DV on the vac straight from the underside of the inlet but send a vac feed off to the N249 even though the other end is not connected. Reason for this is when you run an ECS N75 doing a full N249 removal/bypass causes issues, so I found, and causes the car to randomly go into limp mode. Doing this keeps it in tow. Don't know why but found it works.

I will be getting another ECS N75 when money allows but just found both front tyres are bald on inside edge today whilst servicing car so that's gonna be £80 per tyre fitted and then suppose a 4 wheel allignment to avoid same happening again.

Damn I can waffle.......... :D

Okay, thanks for that.
Have you tried running without the N249 with the current N75?
You might not want to buy the ECS N75;)

Yea tried that when had the standard N75 on, some time ago, but TBH just didn't like the way it felt......plus I like the red birds nest of silicone hose on top of my engine! ;)

Looking tidy mate. Quick question, how did you test the car for the boost problems you were experiencing and how do you know it was the valve? I am having a problem with mine and trying to figure out what the hell is up with the car!

I have a nice boost tester which I got from the US which you fit into the TIP and then pressurise the system via a standard tyre valve which is fitted. Has a gauge on as well to show pressure then just listen.

More than welcome to borrow if you want........??

I work in Hatfield if that helps at all as I see you are in London?

Thanks matey. Spent today pressure testing the system but no luck. Car seemed to be holding boost so I have now booked the car in with AMD to let them have a crack at it!!
