I cant complain really ive had very little go wrong with mine apart from this issue, a couple of self/other person made issues, but other than that very happy with it.

quite easy, from the top you need to take the engine cover off and then the black heatproof rubber pipe that connects the turbo to the metal pipework. say 15 mins, you need to remove the two jubilees on the pipe which is the most akward bit as you need a short flat head to get at them then wrestle the pipe off, its a short 90 degree bend so theres not an awful lot to play with.

hehe, no mate, don't think i've got a dodgy car. It my fault for modifying it tbh! :(

I just like things to be right (and who doesnt?) so i just want to get to the bottom of the issues!

right well i'm thinking that my car feels underpowered lately. Little concerned to say the least.

I'm not hitting the high peaks I used to (19psi compared to 22psi roughly), the car on idle seems to idle with a weaker vac (-18 rather than the usual -20) and this strange boost issue as described on first post on here.... starting to think I might have more serious problems somewhere.... Car also seems to take longer to spool up.... could just be my imagination, but i doubt it now.

When the car get the suspension done next week, I'll get an eye cast over the rest of the car and make sure it all looks ok to someone else...

warmish air reduces your boost pabs and the weaker idle could simply be the gauge or fittings leaking a touch (could be the boost drop reason too)

guages are indicative only, uncalibrated 'crap' IMO - boost goes up, boost goes down, that's all they should be used for.

Are you running DV relocation? check the 'small' pipe isn't kinked or compressed

??? what you on brendy?

I'd not be worrying/thinking about this if it had ALWAYS done it - but it hasn't. Its started doing it recently, and there MUST be a reason behind it.
DV relocation - NO - it was CRAP, and made my car almost undriveable.

Again, i know the gauge is just an indicative kinda thing... but i'd have thought that the gauge would be consistent.

I'm pretty certain i've got a boost leak though - i've driven with no stereo etc and I can hear a rush of air on full boost coming from the rhs of the steering wheel - its NOT the gauge as thats been checked - but last time i had this i had a loose intercooler hose. Now I have an FMIC i'm wondering if one of the hoses might be lose or something.

Today on full pelt i only hit 15psi some of the time. Thats 6psi lower than normal, and when the car was surging on lift-off it felt QUICKER than full pelt.

Yup, engine was still running ok doing around 60mph in 6th when it happened but pulled onto the hard shoulder as it was smoking incredibly badly (all lanes of mway disappeared, no exageration) which was pretty dangerous and happened inside around 200 yards from first noticing a little smoke to full on bellowing) car is with dealers who will be looking at it before the weekend hopefully.

aww sh*te, not good :(

My car DEFINATELY has a boost leak - i can hear it from within the drivers seat.
Anything over 10psi (ish) and I can hear a whooshing noise sounding like its coming from the RHS of the steering wheel, possibly down in the footwell.

Only area i can think of in that location would be one of the two samco hoses for the FMIC... but i can see these being a real pain to check and tighten. Will try and check the TIP as well... but i need to get it sorted - i'm only getting 15psi on a LOT of occasions now.

Have you definately ruled out the map sensor leaking? the forge kit comes with an oval washer that fits between the map sensor and the hole it goes into, without it you can lose 5psi easily, i did!

balls... well i'll give it all a check over, and see what i can adjust/tighten, when i get home tomorrow. Otherwise when it goes into the garage for suspension sort on thursday I'll get JKM to check for leaks too, if they have time :)
