I agree, sounds like the FSE valve was making it run too rich, going back to a original 3 bar regulator is a good idea, then fit your new bank 1 lambda, I had the exact same symtoms with mine, really makes it misfire around 3.5-4k revs with a dead lambda.
 
Long time since a reply i know, but anyone know what the outcome was, sick of spending money on mine now, same symptoms as well. So far I've changed;

New maf
new plugs
New coil packs
new fuel pump
Forge diverter valve
tried new n75 valve to no avail

Had utter checked on vagcom and the only issues i had was low vaccum in manifold. Ny injectors are slightly weeping (all 4) so could that cause this issue?

i had similar problems would boost then suddenly have like a cough then no boost.

vag comd at AmD and founf the same fault code of charge max pressure exceeded.

the wastegate was seizing causing it to overboost which made it run lean and sent itself into limp mode restricting the boost to avoid damage.

got a new turbo sorted just gotta whip it on to see if it sorts it
