well as mentioned in my other thread im not sure if i have found it. but i changed the CAM Follower and then removed all the stones from the under trays under the car. and when the car is on a ramp there is a heat shield next to the down pipe. which is very close to some other stuff. bent that back.

i havent had the issue with 2 days of gentle driving. (driving a 407 at present to save fuel)

im looking for some schmatics of the dash area to see what is in there. if there are any vents ect

anyone know of anything let me know

I have been getting this for a few months now (had Seat leon FR for 8 months).

The rattle on mine is coming from the drivers side, under the dash and still could be heard while the bonnet was lifted. If you listen carefully it can still be heard even when driving or revving the engine but as the noise is low, its mostly obvious on idle.

I took it to a SEAT dealer and had them look at it. They suspected the shocker mount to start with, however upon further investigation claimed it was the fuel pipe housing being insecure. Upon re-securing I was told it was resolved however the next day it started up again, exactly as it was before.

Anyway I am taking it back into SEAT tomorrow, this time advising them to check the centre steady bar to bulkhead which looking at other posts seems to be the issue in that it needs tightening. Whatever the case I will post when a fix is found.

Thanks,WA

glad to see others are on the case!:D

i cant find anything. the only thing left to do is to remove the dash or get my head under there to see whats going on.

hard to find anything when its not rattling anymore.

first up the new knocking sound needs to be fixed

the problem with mine is that its intermittant. So sods law dictates that i'm never near the dealership when it occurs. Yet when it goes in, they cant find it

Lil update, it would appear that my car is now finally fixed. Minus the rattle of course

I was looking at my fuel pipe housing this morning and i was shocked to find how loose it is, seems like the bracket holding it is broken and can rattle easily.
I have temporarily taped the bracket together since ive got to make a 250 mile trip for my week away.

Might be worth see if you guys have the rattly fuel pipe housing aswell?

Mine is doing this all the time now and before it was at random. Really starting to pi$$ me off so I am trying to get it into the stealers this week but as per they can't give me a car until 6 weeks a Tuesday on a full moon! GRRRRRRRRR

I hope somebody can get an answer for this as it's bloody annoying

ok New update on this (might be some good news also)

so noticed over the last few weeks that the rattles on the car appear to be in one place but are actually in a totally different area.

stripped the rear of the car down as i was sure there was a rattle there some where. so out came parcel shelf and seats folded down.

Rattle 1 - Parcel shelf

Rattle 2 - Plastic trim on Boot lid

Rattle 3 and most annoying - In the spare wheel well there is 2 vents with rubber flaps and on Idle the car rocks and these little things go like the clappers.

Now i believe this is also the same for the Rattle i was getting previously that seems to be near the Gear Box area.

Does any one know if there is a vent with these rubber flaps in the front cabin?

Also mine comes ad goes with the weather. mine seems to start after we have a little bit of rain so not sure if this points to the flaps getting wet and being heavier and causing it to rattle more.

thought you may like to know :)

ive had a rattle in my leon for a week now. i first thought it was the clutch, but i did a few simple tests and it was defo not that!! i traced it down to under the dash under the center console. i took it in to Seat today and they traced the noise to a loose fuel pipe running under the car. once reconnected everything was fine. but then they found another rattle which was another fuel pipe that had come loose. one new clip later and all is fine !! and it was all done under warranty !! :D

Mine's in tomorrow for the rattle i posted about so I'll ask the dealer what it was if they find it.

Guys!!! Important that you read this. I found out what my rattle was. The torque mount/dogbone mount on my car snapped on Saturday. The rattle was one of the two bolts that hold it in coming loose. Please please check them and retorque them as it can cause a lot of damage

Got mine back today and the dealer said that the clip/tray where the wiring loom was had broken and it was that which was rattling behind the dashboard.

Time will tell if that's fixed it but so far so good :)

Since buying this car, I have loved and hated it.

This has just started without any alterations or anything being done to the car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ3MZIPgZJE

the video shows how when idle it has a strange dull rattle, but the moment the revs increase it disappears. The rattle sounds like something is knocking.

Please be kind enough to leave me your experiences or advice. Looks like im in for yet another journey to my dealers. Which is not a pleasing experience as I have nothing good to say about them!

AM i really beginning to regret spending my money out on this beautiful nightmare.:headhurt:

I had the same problem, an annoying whine that turned into a rattle ...sorted it got rid of the wife and went for girlfriend V2.0!

ok mine has started to do this noise again as per the video.

it does progress with the reving of the engine although it does seem to disappear when the pedal is pressed its actually still there.

seems to be coming from gearbox / exhuast cat area? had my head in footwell and i cant find anything but can hear it clear as day.

really annoying me now

woke up this morning noise still there got to work and its gone... so i now have a few things to check.

1) clip/tray where the wiring loom was had broken and it was that which was rattling behind the dashboard
2) Engine mounts ect
3) Exhaust Mounts
4) State of cat

when under the car, remove the plastic shield, under there you will see a part of the chassis in which the fuel lines run into. there should be a small circular hole, stick ur fingers inside and you should feel the fuel lines vibrating against each other.
best way to fix it? cut up a sponge into large chunks and poke it in. it will stop when you have enough in there.

also, if that doesnt completely cure it, in the engine bay, on the left hand side next to the coolant expansion tank, there shud b an opening in the chassis in which the fuel lines come out of. stick some sponge deep down and that'll help aswell

Bit o thread ressurection ere!

Mine has this same kind of tinny/plasticy sounding rattle at idle too, goes as soon as you apply a little throttle, it's hard to get a read on exactly WHERE it's coming from though as when in the car (sat in the drivers seat!) it seems almost like it's coming from the boot area!?, but open the door and hang ya head out and it sounds like it's coming from underneath!??

Do i assume the fuel lines rattling is the most frequent cause of this noise!?? (seems so!)

if so i'll have to wait for a dry day/break in the weather to get under the car and get the placcy shields off & investigate!
