Rear brake light issue

Hey guys,

Just a quick bit of advice really before I go back to the dealer with my angry face on :censored:

Ive just noticed while parking tonight that my rear brake lights dont come on until I press the pedal quite hard (abnormal brake pedal force, dangerous when driving normally). Has anyone else here had this problem? Anyone got a quick fix solution or offer any advice?

Had the car 6 weeks and already had it back twice.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Yeah I agree mate, just glad it was me that spotted it and not the police.

Im half tempted to demand they come and pick it up as if someone goes into the back of me as they dont see my brake light then technically, im driving a car not roadworthy and ill probably get the book thrown at me!

Cheers

what they might say is to take it to your nearest garage and they will pay for it, my car was having its m.o.t when the fault was picked up so the garage (not seat) did this for me, I was driving around with no brake lights at some point, I was often saying to the missus...... ' if this ***** keeps driving up my arse I will slam my :censored: brakes on even harder! ' well that would of been a different story then, ouch!

worth putting this to them because if someone did go up the back of you where would you stand then?

LOL id probably stand very painfully :(

Well in my opinion its still in warranty for another 2 years, so I should be able to ring them and get it sorted straight away. what annoys me more is the fact I now have to put my weekend on hold because of it. Where would i stand if i demanded a courtesy car until they can fix it?

Cheers

If it was me I would say I want this sorted asap because it is a hazard not just to myself but other motorists, ring them tomorrow and tell them you are willing to drop it off (hopefully not to far from you) or if they are willing to pay to get it collected (suggest this option first) you would then like a courtesy car as you are not willing to wait around as you have plans that you cant cancel.

Would be good if they sort this for you but I reckon they will say they cant do nothing until monday

*edit* I would be surprised if they suggested that you drive the car

Just got back form the dealer now, and apparantly there is nothing up with it. Tried fobbing me off saying if he adjusted the brake light so it comes on just as you touch the pedal it will affect my engine performance.

I smell a large rat personally. Unless i left foot brake, I cant accelerate and brake at the same time? Me thinks im going to get it booked in next week and MAKE them sort it out. Its still dangerous... Also noticed getting some dodgy readings back from my trip MPG reading this morning. I cant seem to get above 22mpg (i normally get around 33-15mpg), and honestly guys, i drive this car as smooth as can be expected.

Anyone had a problem with the trip before? Either that, or i am really getting about 18-19mpg and its a problem with my engine?!

Cheers

go to a different dealer mate, were the brake lights working when he tried them, did you show him?

if it is not your brake light bulbs then it is more then likely your your brake light switch, when you brake the pedal connects with this and your brake lights come on.

Go to another dealer.

This is the only dealer for 28 miles unfortuately (SEAT deler anyways), so im pretty limited to this one dealer. The lights only come on when, in my opinion, the brake pedal is prressed quite hard. This is no good when motorway driving really as you tend to brush the pedals really.

They werent really that interested in my opinion because it was half eleven on a saturday morning, so im gonna ring on monday and tell them I want a courtesy car while they deal with it. They can also look at the trip issue too, it has never done that before and ive driven it all over the country.

Cheers for the help though mate, ill keep the thread up-to-date :D
