Rear Sub Frame Bush replacement

HELP! I have a 1999 1.9TDI toledo. The rear sub frame bushes are shot. My local SEAT dealership tell me that my car is one of the earlier ones of this model which was apparently fitted with hydraulic bushes, for which there is no replacement and a new back axle is required at considerable cost. Has anyone else come across this problem? My local Euro Parts say they think they have replacement bushes which also need a special tool for fitting (very tight fitting)! A local garage will do the work if correct replacement bushes can be found, but no one seems convinced whether a correct replacement is available!

The early type mk4 platform vehicles had a different bush that sat inside a metal insert which in turn sat inside the axle, there is only one type of bush listed which should fit right in the axle once the bush and metal insert are removed.

This has been the norm on all 98/99 golf and toledo's we've done at work and to date we've not had a problem

Thanks Roly, sounds promising.

Have you got any more information about where these bushes can be purchased or parts numbers etc? In your experience is the special tool required?

I always use bushes from the main dealer, part no is 1J0501541C

The new ones need to be pressed into the axle which we do use a special tool for, im sure a makeshift tool could be made quite easily though

Thanks again Roly. Sorry to be a pain but would just like to clarify. I omitted to say in the first post that mine is an early 1999 (T) mk 2 Toledo. Just want to check as it was the main dealer who said there wasn't a replacement and you say its them that you get yours from. They told me my earlier Mk 2 is fitted with hydraulic bushes for which they can't get a replacement or alternative part.

Yeah the above part number is for MK2 Toledo, i've supplied these bushes to many local garages and never had a problem.
It could be that you have an oddball car but my honest opinion would be take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

Out of interest where are you located

I am located in Southampton. Are you far away or do you have any local contacts that perhaps could help?
