Finally got round to sorting mine this morning, a little dutch courage and the air box came out fairly easily - I couldn't remove the MAF sensor so just flipped the lid onto the engine bay leaving the MAF attached.

One end was easy to get hold of and I had to fish around with my finger to locate the other end, but there was plenty of play on the tubing so I pulled it out a little further so that clipping the two pipes back together was simple. Tucked the tube back where it was, refitted the air box the rear tailgate panel - all in all less than 45 minutes.

So glad to have the rear wash working again, despite what others say I use mine all the time :)

What with my boot refusing to open with the remote a few weeks ago & today my boot filling up with water as well, its not a matter of IF something will happen with the Mk4's its WHEN!

Reminds me of my old Astra GTE, plenty of niggles but puts a smile on my face when i drive it :D

P.S. My boot lining is wet...soz i mean soaked on the right hand side so i presume its the connection behind there thats leaking? will prob have a look now im off for 3days. If i cant see anything i'll leave it til it goes in on the 17th for its service / mot and various other niggles that are peeing me off.

I managed to do mine this morning (offside rear quarter panel joint) ive taken some pics but cant post because i haven't made enough posts yet.

If anyone wants to see the pics let me know & ill PM the links until i can post them myself.

The only real problem i had was trying to remove the plastic trim, sods law i managed to snap a couple of the plastic clips

Either someone has been at this pipe before or the person who actually installed the pipe placed it slightly higher than other peoples because it was simple to lift and reattach both pieces.

Dont really use my rear washer all that much but the thought of having a water feature in the boot wasn't very appealing, mind you i should of known it was going to happen as every car ive ever owned has had water leaks

I don't get how people snap clips!

I've had loads of panels off, including all the plastic trim out the boot to fit sub wiring and to fix the washer.

Not once have I snapped 1 clip :S I've lost count how many times I've had the panels off!

We bought a MK2 8V Ibiza Cupra in 1998 and had the rear washer fixed under warranty. I fixed it numerous times afterwards. My 2006 Ibiza Cupra went back for a warranty repair on the boot washer pipe and I've since fixed it under the airbox. You'd think with the amount of money Seat must pay out on warranty for this that they would have spotted the problem by now.

When I removed the rear hatch inner trim on ours, the clips didn't break, but several of the plastic mountings for them that seem to be plastic welded to the trim panel, snapped off. I stuck them back with superglue but they'll likely snap off again next time the trim is removed.

More rear washer problems...

Hello all,

New to all this, but seems I have the same problem as what sounds like every Ibiza owner. The pipe to the rear washer has come off behind the boot trim on drivers side.

Does anyone have advice, a guide, photos on how to remove the various bits of trim?

I notice Orion1969 has done this... ??

Many thanks in advance.

Thank you Orion1969

I had briefly looked at this thread, sorry didn't realise they were your photos.

My issue is getting the trim off?

I see there are two screws holding the trim above the seatbelt mount, but it appears the other parts of trim need to come off before this one?

If i can remember correctly there's some screws near the light cluster, if there isn't then they're on push/pull clips. Dont be frightened to give the lot a good yank because otherwise it probably wont come away  if you're really lucky you might get away without snapping anything..unlike me

ive had a look under the bonnet today to see wether or not the pipe has come off under where the airbox would be on higher engined models but cant seem to find where the pipe is. can anyone point me in the right direction as its got to be there where its off as its all in tact in the boot lid & at the side of the boot. i did take a picture of under the bonnet so someone in the know could maybe put an arrow pointing to it but im unsure how to post pics in a thread. ( ive now put a link to the photo)

mine popped again yesterday after washing it. Will be the third time ive done it and ive only had the car for less than a year. Luckly it pops under the air box which isnt as bad as the boot i suppose. It seems a common problem on most of the vag cars as my mates polo had it happen to him a couple of times

i found the pipe today. it hadnt come off there anyway it was in the rear quarter where it was, finally got round to doing a load of other jobs too like greasing the internals on the boot handle mechanism.

The pipe is adjacent to the wiring loom that goes under the battery to the corner below the injection unit, then goes diagonally up to the left (on the back wall). That part of the pipe is easier to find, the joint itself being hidden behind the wiring loom. If you pull it (lightly), one half of the joint will be revealed (if has become disconnected)! Then root around for the other half, behind the wiring loom at the corner.

This is the joint that is relatively easy to access - for others, you should only strip down if there is an associated water leak. Also, check that the water bottle is full, and that the sieve in the neck of the screenwash bottle is not blocked.

right then ... where do i start, yesterday i decided to get the rear washer working again. it had come of at the side of the boot in the rear quarter. i connected it again & i also greased the tailgate handle mechanism whilst i was at it as thets been playing up too so i also made sure it was connected there too. at the same time i checked it under the bonnet behind the battery where its also known to come apart and all is well & connected. however today when i went to use it for the first time it seemed like it still isnt connected somewhere. i could hear the motor but nothing came out. the bottle is full of screenwash as i filled that yesterday whilst i was going through my list of 'car jobs to do' so i no its got water in & the fronts still work fine. anyway ill get to the point now, is there anywhere else that the pipe is known to come apart? can anyone shed any light on the matter as im sick of gettin out to pour water on the rear screen now lol.

As long as I don't actually use it, will it not piss water out everywhere? mines gone I think, stopped working the other day i've not noticed any water anywhere yet. As long as its not just pissing water out everywhere whilst im driving round I won't have a look at it until weekend.

It shouldn't, mine isn't.

However until I get round to reconnecting it on the drivers side rear quarter I have disconnected the pipe at the joint in the engine bay though just in case I squirt it by accident.
