RVC reversing camera installed

Ironically there are two wedges, pretty much like that in the box with my camera. Not to hand but i'd guess 3mm at thickest point, so about 6 degress.
I think maybe the other wedge is for the inside so the nut and washer pull up square.

Not sure how far out it can be fixed without seeing inside the bumper, if right back it might be around 15mm of bumper in front of the lens.

Can measure later.
 
Had a look at things, depth on the bumper where the camera mounts is 50mm deep, camera is 35 deep. The wedges supplied are 4mm thick giving 6.5 degress. However they are meant to angle the camera DOWN not up (indicated by the hole position for fixing stud in the wedge).
Could be some cars mounting will show bumper in top of camera view.

In the instructions for the camera it says the spec of lens is 120deg horizontal angle and 170Deg diagonal angle.
Not quite sure what this means yet.

EDIT: on the box it says viewing anglenis 170 deg.

Only thing i can suggest is when it comes to fitting be prepared to make a wedge to suit if it needs it ;)

Hi guys.

I cannot code my camera. Have followed every step carefully several times, but each time I want to configure all the bytes and bits, return to original coding. I am using version 14.1.

Please help :(

Make sure you click off of the byte to change the coding, so if you are on byte 10 make you changes to the bits, then click on say byte 11... you will then notice that byte 10 changes.

Then you can click ok and save the changes.

I have looked at bit more at the angle to try and help you.
You will notice the pictures in the very first page how the camera is mounted is mid way out on the undetside of the bumper.

I have tested mine using a mock up and taken note of what you can see. With the camera mounted right back (towards the front of the car) you can see something 120mm out on a level line at the height the camera is mounted on.

So in otherwords you could reverse up to another SEAT Leon and see to park to 120mm away.

If the camera is tilted with a 3mm wedge you can then see something at approx 70mm away.

When i fit mine i will mount almost right back with no wedge hope that helps.
 
Right. Finally got round to fitting the camera today.

Found out a few more issues in the process, paint chipped where one of the light clusters go and a squashed non sealing o ring on the other side light cluster. The same idiot who broke the side repeater and damaged three of my wheels at factory.

Anyway camera fitted and works fine UNTIL I start the engine!

Tested the camera when coded a while back, I'm sure with engine running.Power was temporary from the cigarette lighter.
Have tested the camera at various stages since, and about 3 times during installation. BUT ignition only. Power via reverse feed.

Once went to move the car with all the bumper back on and start engine it flashes up quicly with the correct picture then becomes back with interference.

What could this be any ideas?:blink::confused:

Have taken power from the reverse positive feed. Earth on the specific stud, and video cable runs down left hand side of car. Cables run to a grommit, and together out the bottom of the car, along and across to bumper with the parking sensor loom.

I'd say, something with power supply.
- I suggest you to try to power the camera from an independent power source: there might be a low voltage on the camera.
- Also it might be some voltage disturbances. Might worth using an oscilloscope to see the form of a 12V supply. Should be a straight line. You could also add a 12V voltage stabilizer, it will filter all the impurities in the 12V line, protect the camera from overvoltage, and ensure your camera has its 12V, if the problem with the power source is not very bad.
- Bad contact for 12V supply. Engine shakes the car and contact is constantly disappearing.
- Bad earth contact.

I'll re check 12v power source tomorrow. I only have a normal volt meter, this was perfect when installed though.Worth elminating incase.
The earth is tight and on an earthing point, at the rear of the car.
 
Reverse feed (I'm pretty sure it is) gives 11.6v in reverse with engine off, ignition on.
With engine running gives 11.4-11.6 variation.
Works fine from cigerette lighter at 12 and 13.6 respectively.

EDIT

Directly on the reverse bulb contact, gives 11.6v ignition only and 11.3-11.4 with engine running.

People fit these oftern, it can't be this hard.

Clearly states on box not suitable for continuous operation so i have no alternative??

The constant positive comes by pulses, and the interferences come from there. To avoid them we need to take a pure 12v, from the fuse box or from the 12v socket (I'd install one in the rear).

So take one of those pure 12v, and the ground from the reverse light. With this the camera wouldn't be ON all the time as the on/off switch is made by the ground wire (reverse light).
 
It might be worth a go but seems extreme.

If it's connected to even switched ignition power it will ge constantly on!

Cheers. Every guide i find on fitting a generic RVC camera says get power from the reverse light, rather miss leading then.

Ironically while the car is in bits I'm fitting a rear 12v socket next for a rear dash cam.

Sounds like a plan with the positive from the same feed as the rear cigarette lighter to be fitted and reverse light ground then

BUT

do you mean i need to take ground from the light cluster ground, there is not one seperate for reverse, it also does the side/brake light?

Ie 3 wires go in this plug, one side/brake, one reverse and ground.

If so the boot lid trim is a killer

To add the cig lighter will run 13.6 ish volts camera says it needs 12v +/- 1% so 10.8 to 13.2
 
Right trying to understand your advice Marlop.

Ran a test 12v+ from cigerette lighter at front of car, tested to ground near reverse bulb (does the whole cluster)

- i get 12v with ignition on and not in reverse
- switch ignition the same
- put in reverse, bulb lit, same voltage
- run engine bulb still lit, voltage changes to 14.6v

This sound right? Or do i need the 12v to be purer?

Voltage too high for camera?
