Right im fed up with these coilovers so im thinking of changing to shocks and springs for a better ride.

now im trying to work out which is better,

Koni
Pros

Cheaper
Cons
only -35mm

Weitec

Pros
-50mm drop
Cons
More money and the -50mm will need new arb links too.

Also where is the cheapest place for both, any fantastic trader offers going on?

Im a Koni owner and when I put them on my Cupra I was a little dissapointed with the drop. Go for Weitec, heard many good reviews

:worship:

Proof there is wisdom in a dark world of coilover obsession tunnel vision.

Well done mate, now buy some Weitec's!

they are £180 hot tunning coilovers. and they are the most problematic thing i have ever done to the car. but shhhh i want to sell them on ;)

Just the use of the word coilovers in any advert will have the sheep flocking to buy mate, no matter how shabby they are!

Then they can give it 'the crab' to their mates down the boozer, and the sh1t ride will be an acceptable cost to bear just so they can say "check me motors its slammed on coilies, now be impressed, I'm so scene!" (because obviously they will have paid at least a 5'er to have had them set up by a blind monkey acting as a tuning specialist in a lock up in Cacksville!

You'll never look back!

It was a tener, and he was in Wokingham thank you very much :p

and he was a chimp to be specific.

try them once youve took the spring seat off the top.... id be moaning at the garage aswell matey.

how low you wound them down, did you replace the top mounts aswell when you refitted>

so many people fit stiffer suspension and use mounts with mileage on and complain about the ride... myself included... new mounts bearings, sort the chimp work out and i would say they will be fine

also use plenty of white grease when fitting new top mounts to avoid creaking etc

would about 40 at front and about 50 at rear,

they had new top mounts and bearings fitted all round. and i dunno about the grease, if i can grab a deep reach socket then ill pump some grease in the top lol.

40 and 50 is quite low tbh, maybe crashy because of this, do the rub on the driveshafts...

also if they dint set them up properly the ride will be gash.

did they replace the bolt in the wheel bearing housing?

spark plug socket is easier than the deep reach spanner.

make sure its white grease you use though mate, other greases can corrode the top mounts

they will be bumpy, coilies generally are.

so no driveshaft rubbing

just get the top mount sorted and grease it, make sure all bolts are torqued correctly, ensure struts ares eated in the clamps properly and i think youll find they will be sound.

I'm amazed you can buy coilovers for 180 notes. I paid £350 10+ years ago for springs and dampers as I couldn't think of affording the £700+ for coilovers (as they were back then). I know technology has helped reduced costs, but I can't believe a company can manufacture coilovers, let alone ship them and add tax and they still only cost £180. Makes you wonder what the raw product cost is worth pre-shipping / tax / profit etc...

As they are on and fitted it may be worth spending the money on a bit of loving (grease / alignment) as other James says, and it may be enough to get you by until they need changing in the future.

hottuning are seen as budget coilies, so you get what you pay for

having said that i have £150 janspeed shocks and springs, no problems, good setup for the money
