Steering wheel controls and brake not disengaging.

Good morning guys and girls.

I got a new Seat Ibiza FR TDi 1.9 on Wednesday of last week. A few quick questions for you before I go pester my dealer.

1) My steering wheel audio controls do not illuminate with the rest of the dash. Should they? A friend of mine has a Leon 1.9 TDi and his work perfectly. It makes them near impossible to operate in the dark and I end up listening to Whitney Houston! Surely no man deserves such a punishment.

2) I get this sensation when applying the break that it remains slightly engaged after releasing. After a few moments the brake is released fully and I go on my merry way. Is this some ingenious innovation by those wonderful lads at Seat to prevent (sorry for this) our more senior Seat drivers from rolling back at those traffic lights positioned on a slight and unnoticable incline, or is it a fault which will cause my break pads to wear out just prior to its first MOT?

I thought that too (Sport with Lux pack) when I picked up car up on Wednesday. It's fairly easy to get used to their positions fortunately!!

Not sure about the brakes haven't really noticed. Will pay attention on the way home!!

T'is true... unless the steering wheel is upside down at the time.... Celine Dion blasted out this morning! Damn BBC Southern Counties Radio!

Has anyone got this problem with the brakes? The brake pedal is high too! Have to drop it approx to one-two inches (estimated coz I can't be bothered going out to the car to check coz it's p***ing down) before the brakes engage and the rear brake lights illuminate. I feel a trip to the local dealer coming on... and the sod's don't even like me coz I went elsewhere to buy the car! Oops!

i noticed the brake pedal coming up slowly, i got a dealer excuse of it is damped on the release when you press down fairly hard so when you are stopped in traffic jam, when you go from brake to throttle you dont roll back so quickly. good excuse or actual feature? dunno, but i have noticed since that it is very good at not rolling back when hill starting in a queue

I can't believe the brakes are designed to do this...to implement something like that wouldn't be cheap, and if Seat are so penny pinching to remove boot lights I can't see them spending money on a anti-roll-back feature to save people who can't do hillstarts properly.

Perhaps it's just because they are new, so the pads are at full thickness and binding slightly

The only vehicles i've ever driven that have a feature where the brakes stay engaged for a second after release is in the Mercedes Sprinter vans fitted with the sprint shift gear system. Essentially an automated manual as opposed to a true automatic. With these, the brakes are held for around 1-2 seconds after you release the pedal or until you press the throttle - easiest hill starts in the world - no handbrake or anything

I dont think it actually holds the brake on, I think it just takes it's time to come up the last wee bit. Mine does this too.

Exactly, it doesn't keep the brakes fully engaged, just applies a slight bit of friction which slows the car and presumably grinds the brake pads away slowly but surely.

With mine it only seens to be the last cm or so that it slowly lifts, I've never felt any dragging of the brakes at all when it does this though.

Brake fluid levels are fine. Possibly air in the system??? Never heard of it having that effect before tho???

the bolt that goes through the pedal is prob a bit too tight

I had this on mine and they said it would loosen up with mileage but it didn't so they loosened it a couple of flats

Yeah i've noticed this to, Compared to other cars i've driven you have to move the whole foot to brake instead of just rolling the ankle. No big deal, it might lower itself in time, that or we'll just have to get used to it..

my brakes i only have to lie a hair on the peddal and it starts to break. and with the seat sport breaks boy do they break! lose your face off your head sometimes!!!
