If your thinking about selling its a very difficult market just now.
If I turned up to buy your car and it had a knocking noise that you didn't know what it was I wouldn't be buying your car off of you.

one of my mates whould be buying it off me and he knows all about it, so wouldn't matter in that department :) plus he has alot of plans for it, coilovers, bugger turbo etc....

but thats another matter.......

as you said its a hard time to sell a car at the mo and I would like to keep it and get everything sorted :) apoke to a mate today who works for VW and he's ordered me a set of strut tops, ball joints, droplinks, and a set of wish bone bushs got them mates rates too ;) so hopefully it will stop

I have had this ongoing knocking noise when turning and driving over uneven road surface or rough ground. I have a lot of help saying the strut tops so I have got a mate VW parts dept who ordered me a set along with new ball joints and droplinks.

I was on my way to pick them up on sat - pulled into halfords car park, had a look around, got back to the car, started up went to drive off and there was this horrible griding noise????? like I was draggin something under the car - mate had a look under and couldnt see anything? drove up to the junction still grinding, pulled out and it just stopped? after that I dove through town parked up and never did it again?

I had 4 people in the car so slightly more weight - but I haven't a clue what it was?? mate said it sounded like a drive shaft noise

any ideas?

well I got slightly further on this problem then back to the drawing board again......found the inside of the drivers disc was scorn so that rules out the noise I heard the other day - but the knocking noise when driving along is still a mystery! got it up on a lift to find the under tray was rather loose - so refitted all new bolts and fixings and set off.......
nothing...no noise, as soon as I thought it was fixed a noise started up again!

If I am driving along doing around 30-40mph and wobble the steering so I get the car rolling slightly you can hear the knocking noise - all the bush's have been checked and seem fine, strut tops are getting changed after christmas now, but it sounds like its still coming from the steering [:@][:@]:censored:

I had the same knocking noise with my LCR. Had the car in at seat, never found the problem so it was trail and error. Relpaced both top mounts, no difference. replaced whishbone bushes, no difference. Changed the anti-roll bar bushes and hey presto!!!

I have an uprated anti roll bar already on, so I ruled out that? going to try the top mounts after xmas and see if that does anything - if not as you said trial and error

what was the noise you were getting?

Update!!!!!

well finally got the problem sorted out - the problem was the drivers drop link was knackered! only had it replaced when I first bought the car, only found it when we had the car on all four wheels and my mate was in the garage pit pulling down on the arb - car feels sooo much better now.
