Updating the inbuilt Mib2 Satnav / Mib2 tricks and Mib1

That explains it your release was sometime between 2015 - 2018 but not 1030 and beyond 🤗. Glad that worked.
Correct, it was a (dutch) release from 2016, cant remember which build exactly but it was pretty old. Your uploaded overall file worked instantly with the new map updates without requiring the stock maps that came with the car :). The SD-card had Europe AS 1 (V4) printed on it

I take it I could just buy an updated SEAT Nav SD card like this and avoid a lot of fiddling about.. I've got a 2020 ATECA with MIB2 install (6P0)

There were some post 2019 Seats where they had abandoned Mapcare. Possible yours might be one of those. That's why they sell those cards for people who don't have computer skills or the card is damaged or lost. You can study your navigation FeCs to see whether you have one of these lucky late productions cars.

To examine the FeCs you do:

1. Hold Menu button until service mode shows.
2. Press "Function enabling codes (FEC, SWaP)"
3. Press "Installed codes"

Hmm cant find the German post at the minute. Ive given out the link on here a few times. There are a few cars about that scraped in this category.

Seat enforced Mapcare on mib2 till the very last year. The overall.nds file dance side steps that. If you buy a new card and you aren't one of the luck ones then you have to just overwrite the overall.nds file with the working one. Seat wanted you to buy workshop time in the past. Suspect they don't know how to do it now. Those cards are sold for when you have Mapcare. That which was never sold in the UK.

If you got a working card easy enough to follow the instructions. If you have deleted what's on it loosing the overall.nds file then follow the instructions.

OK I found the thread where I posted up the FeC codes for the lucky ones that caught the end of Mib2 standard. You do the FeC examination buttons and read off your 074 FeC codes on the link

1. Hold Menu button until service mode shows.
2. Press "Function enabling codes (FEC, SWaP)"
3. Press "Installed codes"

If the 074.... ends with EE you are in luck other than that, it's the workaround.

It's that time of year again. The mib2 high maps for 2023-2024 are now available aka June 2023. Thanks to the world of map file sniffers. These have appeared on the Briskoda site thanks to MartiniB. The new release code is 330 replaces 310.

You do need the navigation FeCs for it. See the resource for information on that:

Mac instructions apply, if you got one, Keka and CleanMyDrive. PC use 7 zip. Well they still fit on a 32gb Sandsk Exteme card. Tried that. Other 32GB SD card may not. If not invest in a 64gb or use a USB of a bigger capacity. ExFat should be used on bigger cards, Fat on 32gb cards, NTFS on USB (the latter I recall, havent tested, use SD myself). People mistakenly format their 32gb SD card to NTFS and definitely wont fit if you do that. NTFS is also slower than ExFat on SD cards. Did some timing. For standard navigation cards never format them, just delete what's on them 💡.

1. download 7z/zip archive from direct link or Keka if a Mac

2. extract content to SD Card or USB

(Via PC / Mac directory)

Copy contents to an empty SD or USB.

If using a Mac you must then use CleanMyDrive on the media where you copied the material. That will remove the hidden Mac garbage that will fail the SLA1 signature check since the Mac bloat causes it to fail.

3. insert memory device into slot

4. start of update usually is offered automatically, manually can be found under Navi-> Settings

software version h29.344.59_std2nav_eu

I know I need to update my maps (V9) but can I/ need to update the actual program?

If so is there a guide (or even a post to search through) and a link to the relevant software??

Yes the guide is the tab, top left but here on the ljnk:

2023 was the last release in November 2022. The 2023 isn't year.... it just happens. There will be a June release at some point.

Be aware of the overall.nds file from your existing SD you will need it. Copy it across. It's all in the link and above.

June 2023 has come early for Mib2 standard, thanks to MartiniB again - straight cut and paste from Briskoda. Don't forget the overall.nds trick. Normal workaround. You need it for Seats. nb. Mr Fix doesn't mention that 😉.

Link in the resource section below. Normal drill for those that know. Advised not to format the SD original SD card that has been known to cause issues, just the card. Just delete what is on it, don't treat it like a floppy disk or hard drive. The abridged version follow steps 1-12 from here:

How you know whether it's a mib2 standard or high is in the link (map on SD and 6P in the text it's a standarc).

Latest release 2110 is the June 2023 release files, see codes to the zones in the next post:

Seat Navi (MIB2),
VW Discover Media2 (MIB2),

Thanks for that I was thinking of just buying a V17 map to change up to a 32gb card. I presume that is the only way to change cards?
would they be plug and play or would I have to use my existing ALLOVER.NDS file?
some of the sellers are saying that the card has speedcams on them. Do you reckon they would actually work with my unit (the dreaded 877 unit!)
Thanks

There was s small group of cars circa 2019 that had lifetime navigation FeCs, end of production. A new card generally means the overall.nds trick unless it was in that group. 2018 woundl not be. Sellers say anything about speed cameras. EBay you can get the 32gb cards from. Good seller based on rating etc. You then put latest maps on plus your old overall.nds on it.

Sadly mine isnt one of those. I checked the FEC swap installed codec.
No 073 code ( think thats for the navi plus) but two 074 codec one being 10 and the other being 24.
Looking at the german seat forum 074....10 and it says its maps up to 2018 with V7 being 2018.
So by logic I am guessing that 074...24 would be be up to June 2021.
Guess thats why the V9 works.

Have now downloaded V18 Maps but I am presuming that I need to by a genuine VW 32gb card to transfer it over 1st

Thanks

If you aren't travelling across Europe you can use one of the zones but other than that and you want the lot it's the 32GB VAG card, Skoda, Seat or VW all interchangeable you still need your overall.NDS file or you use the rescue routine covered.

For missing or lost overall.nds files the year dot Seat one is in this post.

Answer your last question the map cards have a CID on them that identifies them to the VAG group so they get income when bought. Ordinary SD cards won't work in the unit unless the firmware is hacked. Retrofitters offer that service but probably safer not to bother. Stick to the VAG cards. The cards are really sold as replacement, they would be plug and play on VW and Skoda but not on Seat where Seat sold Mapcare in Europe but not in the UK. The premise was by some you sold your car if you wanted new maps. Hence the thread to keep your maps up-to-date rather than ditching the car 😐. It was Exciter's work back in 2017 that sorted the mib2 standard out. It's found across all Seat boards now. It was bizarre that Seat UK didn't make the maps user updateable the same as VW and Skoda. They were given maps for the life of mib2.

Thank you so much for all your replies and hard work.
I have been trying to het it sorted in my little hurty head (as you can tell by the time)
I have a seller offering me a V17 map(32gb) with speedcams for £60- Very expensive but comes with a 30 day money back warranty if not completely happy.
I also have Andy from east yourkshire retro... who will update my own card ( again with speed cams) For £30.
Or I can just use the map I downloaded (V18) and spend several hours trying to sort out my own POI via poinspector.
Now I am pretty sure i have done similar for my garmin zumo for my bike so I know that, given the time, I can do it.
But I have a pile of logs that need cutting for next winter, the playing with the new car is taking ages and Mrs wants her home office building!
In an ideal world I want to give someone my card and say "make it the latest working with speedcams" Which is , I suspect, is the East yorkshire retrofit option.
I really want to get it working myself- I am going to try the scdb demo to see if that works on my 877 model.
If it does- happy days, I can update my maps myself and add scdb.
If it doesnt, I suspect I will be in touch with Andy and spend £30 for this 1st year.
Having owned a vw passat before my mondeo ( which I had for 10 years) I forgot the mess VW make of their little changes!!

Your best bet I reckon is get the latest maps installed using the links above. If you want speed camera warnings as well then either use the SCDB commercial camera database or use the PocketGPSWorld one using Poinspector to generate the cars upload of them.

The other solutions on the cameras is that you don't know the quality of the data that is being used and what exactly is in them. Historically knocking about on the forum has been database of unknown providence.

Poinspector came into its own when VW took down their web page which generated the export file from users POIs. The site was in German way. That was withdrawn when mib3 came out, no legacy way of importing user POIs was left for mib2 on the VW website although the maps are still published. As well as Poinspector there are some Excel sheet macro driven tools. Whether they updated those for the Seat mib2 standard WiFi unit, pass. I did get PMed once by an author. Think you might find them on Github. All programmes have to generate the meta hash code and have an updated set of head unit Id's in them. Anything historic and not used won't have the Seat unit in them. This was half the problem with the VW website it often didn't have the newer units in it of the brand.

As I said on the user POI upload thread there are no published speed camera locations in the UK. People who build this data take them from crowd sourcing or scrape them from other databases which are patchy like Google and Here Maps. Those two are crowd sourced but not at the level of PocketGPSWorld. The SCDB ones are probably scraped with cross checking, whilst the PocketGPSWorld ones are crowd sourced. Scraping is problematic if they are Swiss cheese like ones. Speed partnership organisations in some places publish where mobile speed checking will take place. May not cover the police handheld ones. Those publication's that I've seen are monthly.

There is a difference also between fixed locations and mobile ones. The mobile ones in PocketGPSWorld seem to be good but also include speed monitoring warning radar signs, not cameras, which probably by implication means hand held devices are used there as well. I have seen the police out at these location. Also have noted strips of road where speed cameras are put in the PocketGPSWorld ones as fixed when they are mobile. The categorisation isn't always correct in the PocketGPSWorld ones. You need both categories installed that way you are covered by the crowd sourced warnings of actual (fixed cameras) and potential (mobile).

Reality with all of this you are better off with a car with TSR in it if worried about speeding since it's monitoring signage and digitised road speeds all the time. I find it pretty good. People moan about false positives, these I find rarely in the UK. If they use lane assist turned on, false positives from TSR will apply the brakes. I use TSR with lane assist off preferring to drive the car than the automation taking you thru UK pot holes. It only works well on marked up white lined roads.

POI thread is here:

The mobile ones in PocketGPSWorld seem to be good but also include speed monitoring warning radar signs, not cameras, which probably by implication means hand held devices are used there as well. I have seen the police out at these location but note on strips of road speed cameras are put in the PocketGPSWorld ones as fixed when they are mobile. The categorisation isn't always correct in the PocketGPSWorld ones. You need both categories installed that way you are covered by the crowd sourced warnings.

As ever thanks.
You are 100% right.
My only issue at the moment is time to do it LOL
I have been chatting to Andy from EYR and he offers a map service with cams. He seems very knowledgeable and genuine.
I will find out what database he uses and if its a good one I may splurge the money as a stop gap until I can sort it myself!!!
Thanks so much for all your help.

Great thread. Just relearned how to do it again after 2 years.
Having just spent 1000 on repairs to the car I'm glad to have found something free.
...and added a recent free speedcam DB to it as well.

thanks again

Just updated to latest maps. First time I've updated them since I got the car. Sat nav works fine so far, new roads in my area now included. Scanned my car with carista and car scanner pro app and getting a Navigation database not enabled error code. As I say, it seems to be working fine, just wondering how I get rid of this error code
