Technical sent through info/photos of what was required to the dealer.

From memory, dealer said that currently there is the outer door seal and an inner seal inside the door. This inner seal has a 'lip' at the top of it. What they believe is that sometimes this lip is rubbing against the inside of the window making it wet. The fix was to modify this inner seal to remove the lip.

I think that is about it. I'm going to let them know how it goes, it was OK last night, just hope that is the end of the problem.

Was thinking about this, is it right though that so much water is entering the door full stop?

They were wet around the middle portion of the window, nothing major and nothing as bad as the front. But saying as they f**ked me about i said i wanted them done too just because it would give them more hassle to do it and maybe they may learn to just fix it as i wasnt going away!! just noticed it one time that rears were streaky!

I need to check mine more often.

I've been really dumb not checking them as I know lots of water pours out the bottom of the doors at times.

Is 'Wet Windows' a known problem with Seat?

Hi,

I have got this problem with my 56 plate Leon and the dealer said they knew nothing of it.

Before I take it in, is there a fault number or some kind of reference with Seat I can give them please?

Or some pointers as to what may be causing the problem?

Many thanks!

I need to check mine more often.

I've been really dumb not checking them as I know lots of water pours out the bottom of the doors at times.

I never dreamt of checking them, but just looking out while reversing once and noticed a streak down the window the same as the front and said to myself, not these ones too!! Dealer said they fixed them, will just keep an eye out. A certain amount of water gets in the outer seal but i think it shouldnt more than a small trickle not water ppouring out the bottom of the door!! Never had this!

It depends, some times not much water drains out while other times water can pour out for nearly ten seconds.

The other weird thing I find is that is that the doors full of water and wet windows doesn't happen time every time it rains or gets washed, might even find sometimes that only one door has the problems. Strange.

That does sound strange, about >95% of time i had wet windows after rain and washing. do the seals move slightly due to moisture content and temerature maybe?Just an idea thrown out here??

There is a known problem, get your dealer to contact seat technical directly to get advice on the fix and get them to do all oyur windows for telling you otherwise! it seems there is a lip on the inner seal and this touches the window letting water onto the inner side of the window.

No idea. Not sure if it is something to do with the angle the water comes in at and the force of it. The passenger side usually suffers less so maybe that is because it is more sheltered from the elements as that side has the house wall next to it.

All a big mystery!!

The gap was that wide that it still fell into the door? take out your speaker and see if you can find it lying in the bottom of the door to see if it fell past the seals?

Yes there is a gap so to speak, but not that wide. The night I collected that stuff the rain was torrential and it had partially forced the stuff down before I got to it. I tried to get as much as I could out, but some I just couldn't as it was already stuck beyond the point of no return. Of course, first time the window went down, the stuff that was stuck just went down with the window and never came back up.

Has happened since too.

Just don't understand the design of the rubbers at all. Nothing like it on any of my prevous cars which include three Ibizas, two Clios, one Golf and one Spitfire.

ALL - this is a known problem, my Leon had the fix last Tuesday and seems fine now.

Ring SEAT customer services and speak to Ashley, he knows about the problem. He informed me of the fix and also contacted my dealer to let them know.

I'm guessing this is a fix that isn't being shouted about, you need to contact them to get it.

Indeed.

Popped a wee e-mail to the service manager of my dealer tend days or so ago but think he is on holiday at the moment, but will get it sorted.

Just out of curiosity though, does your fix still have rubbers where the rubbish can collect?

Nothing looks changed on the outside, it's just the inner seal that has the lip removed.

I had a lot of green on the rubbers and have pics of them like that. Havnt had stuff fall in except water but it doesnt look right.

It is a known problem. Was funny when I said Seat knew about the problem then all of a sudden the dealer went from not knowing anything about it from saying seat know about it and was distributing the information to all dealers!! Was very coincidential to say the least!

Nothing modified on exterior that i can see, just the lip as has been said!?

I used in the argument with the dealer while telling me it was normal to have the water that i have had a few different makes of car and not a single drop of water inside!!

I have big concerns that if the car was parked up for a fortnight (say it is in an airport car park while I'm on holiday) in really bad weather, how much water is going to collect in the doors? Or does it only collect so much before it starts expelling some?

In my case it was the front part (by the wing mirrors) of both front windows. I can confirm 100% that Nidd Vale knows how to fix this issue. I can also confirm that Seat UK know how to fix it as it was these guys who informed Nidd Vale how to do it.

For anyone near Harrogate or even willing to travel, you can contact them on 01423 500005. Stand your ground and let them know that you know what you’re on about.

I just picked up my car and they told me they couldn’t hear the alleged rattle!!!! Hmmmmmmmmm a little test drive later and low and behold of the mechanics heard it.

He also let it slip that the SEAT guy is constantly on the phone asking for fixes to various rattles, wet windows and other common faults.

Seat does know about these faults.

Hope it goes well for everyone. I’m still trying to get all the problems with my Leon sorted, its a shame because this is essentially an excellent car.

Good Luck.

Jim

Well I'm glad that you had success but frankly amazed that Nidd Vale managed to sort anything. Had my old Leon 4 times for a leak which they knew the location of and still didn't fix it properly. Must be because Seat told them what to do.

My car went in for a couple of niggles on Weds, inlcuding a wet drivers window (not much of it) and straight away the technician told me it was a known fault without a cure. Interesting reading your comments, guy - pity Nidd is so far...
