the one on my egr going to manifold was fibre the small one underneath was metal with a recessed edge, the fibre one fills gaps like its not a full flat surface also when i removed mine even though the egr was tight you could see the gasses were trying to get past, still cleaned all with brake cleaner though, i think your organel one is not the right gasket as with the ones i seen for sale for that area are fibre, clean egr and lower pipe again while off with oven cleaner comes up like new lol, quieter shutdown and seems like more comes in car smoked a lot after i did it due to more air a good blast fixed thatYou're the first person outside of Cornwall I've heard use the word 'hanging' in that way...
My EGR gaskets arrived today. They're not the same material as the old ones, which are metal. These are more of a fibre material. I'm sure they'll be fine though.
I've spent more time looking around for what my hiss could be and a couple of forums I came across had people suggesting it's the lower EGR cooler pipe that can crack or split. Others have had a cracked intercooler. I know what I'd rather it be...

Well, right or wrong, they're both coming out tomorrow. I have a feeling that the fibre one will do a better job of sealing the connection, and one of them is damaged anyway. I didn't think any damage on the outside edge would cause a problem, but it looks like that might be the case.
watch you don't drop the gaskets on lower pipe and theirs one at each end i did as they stick to pipe, will be surprised if that's cracks its quiet heavy gage and the pipe looks stainless steel, i copper greased the bolts putting back in as well, also its easier too remove with pipe than just egr due too that dam right bolt underneath i took that off later when removed, i used the cif oven cleaner all the same gear, rinsed with water then finshed off with brake cleaner i nearly waxed it as well lol, one mine i rekon the flap was not fully closing thats why noisy shutdown but looked like it was when i checked beforehand, messy job though you need to wear gloves also
pointless gases will just dry the silicon out in no time even if you could you'd need a rubber lubricate as some oils rot the rubber i would remove the o-ring though before using over cleaner as just clips in and out you'd be surprised the carbon behind it, that happened time first time one reason i took bottom pipe out with egr and did that dam bolt after removed, but you still need to remove the left bolt to gain access too the bolt holding egr,
That's the one between the EGR and the intake manifold. In the end, I'm glad I checked, as that's far more likely to be the cause of a boost leak than the gaskets underneath, but at the same time, it's frustrating because I've got a full day and I doubt I'll be able to get it and fit it today. I don't think Halfords do that size either, so I can't even do a quick fix.
