The plan for tomorrow is to get it all back together with the AET380 turbo, port matched Chinafold & new Badger5 V.2.2 80mm TIP.

I thought you had done that to keep the big turbo off the breaker. Should go really well with the hybrid setup still.
I'd like the drivability of the k04 but the power of a gt30! Cant afford either tho!

Na, im already running a hybrid set up and to be fair I was really happy with how it ran but why not have a bit more power without changing a great deal? Haha
Once it's remapped I don't think I'll be wanting much more power though tbh.
If anything it'll be gearbox mods next.

If I'm honest, both. I've lost count of the number of jobs he's been like 'nah, nah, you can't do it...' The last time (well, before telling me I couldn't change my dogbone bushes) he told me I shouldn't be changing my top mounts with a spring compressor. Well, I did that too.

Trouble is, if I don't get that ball joint top nut off, I might have to go and see him. Well, at least someone at a garage. I just need a little more leverage than I can get from my spanner, I know it. I can't do the old two-spanner technique either because I can only get the open-ended side on the nut.

It's doing my nut in.
 
Honestly I'd just undo the driveshaft to get more access. Long as you don't damage the thread (I wound the nut off then on enough before hitting the crap out of it with a socket) you should be good, torqueing it up is a bit weird but straightforward.

At least then you've got access for angle grinder if it comes to it

Oh the irony. Got home after my clutch change today, popped the bonnet and whats the first thing I notice? A missing battery cover. I'm hoping that they just forgot. I'll chase em up tomorrow first thing. Looks like the red battery wire has been twisted too, meaning I have to take it all apart to get the battery cover back on anyway!! :cautious:

Fair enough, 350 to 370 Bhp is probably the sweet spot for these cars and our roads.
LSD next then? Are you on the standard clutch?

Exactly I'll be more than happy with 370 - 380.
Much more becomes wasted on these imo.
I'm currently running a single mass flywheel conversion which is bang on at the moment but will have to see how it holds up to extra oomph...
Buy yeah I reckon an LSD could well be on the cards later on down the line.

I think I'm going to have to. The nut is already in pretty poor condition, but I've got a new one on order so can put that in easily enough.

How easy is it to get the bolt off when the car's off the ground?

Luckily in your case, they did actually have to take it off to do the job! Hope they've noticed it and put it to one side - it sucks when you don't notice and they end up getting thrown out.

If you have someone who can put their foot on the brakes then pretty easy, if not then you’re gonna have to lower it to put some weight on so it won’t spin

I saw people using a screwdriver in the brake disc vent to sopt it spinning, figured it was super clever. One wrench on the hub nut and i snapped the tiny screw that holds the disc on. :cautious:

I always crack the nub nuts with car on the ground if I'm doing it with a breaker bar (pop the centre cap out)
In air is usually fine with an impact wrench though.

I cracked them on the ground. Jacked it up then stuck a screwdriver in the discs

I regularly use the screwdriver in the disc technique when I'm whipping the inner driveshaft splines bolts out.

Sounds like that's what I'll be doing then. I'd have liked to have got the top nut out without having to take off that CV nut - after the past few days I just want to get it done - but now I know the subframe is OK after getting the dogbone out, I can put the arms back in without having to worry about having to take everything out again. With any luck, once I get the breaker bar on top of the ball joint nut, something will happen with that extra leverage - snap off or come undone, I don't really care - it's coming out.

I haven't got a torque wrench that goes as high as 200Nm though for when I put the axle nut back on - is that going to be a problem?
