If you want to make yourself feel better have a read of the MK4 Forum and see all those shiny new motors with nothing but problems and some not even covered by new or used car warranty.

Every time I get itchy feet about changing my daily motor, that’s what I do.
Just read a few pages of problems with new cars, not just on here on a couple of other forums too then think why would I do that.
It’s great motivation to keep my old ones.

That is pretty much it! We can be proud of owning a 25 years running car! Mk1's aren't bullet proof but are close. Almost everyone has had car problems. And then there is Mk1 problems. But there's usually a lot of help around here, and with some luck, we can usually fix much of the problems. Of course, the price you pay for 25 years of maintenance can sometimes almost lead to divorce from your car and your spouse. But it's a pleasure to drive, and whether it's spotless or has a flawed paint job, it always puts a smile on our faces.
My better half surprised me with this for my birthday.

No it's not been clocked. It was under 21k when I bought it last year. Ive done about 3k miles since I passed my test in may

I think I've only seen one myself, that & an electric blue with a white bonnet, fuel cap & wheels (a bit odd I may add).
Don't be. They last 3 years tops
The cheap Chinese ones, with a coating of UV blocking varnish, last better.
