850rpm would be the norm

check you don't have an air leak into the inlet manifold.

You may also be able to raise the idle in vag-com if you know where to look

I did take it to the dealers a while ago about the engine shaking but they said they'd checked and there was nothing wrong with it... it's possible that it didn't shake for them (as it doesn't do this every time) and if you say the idle is supposed to be 850rpm then there's definitely something not right.

Other than that it runs and starts fine - except theres sometimes a worrying dive in power when I'm pulling out, say at a roundabout or something, unless I keep the rev's up before hand. This could be normal for the 75bhp 1.4, but could this also be related to the idle problem /possible inlet manifold leak?

Whats the best way to check for a manifold leak? (I'm no mechanic btw so keep it in "engines for dummys" speak if possible!!!)
