I know this thread is really old but I just had this problem!
Took it into local garage just to get window jammed back up for time being (didn't have the right screwdrivers). The guy said it's definately the regulator (apparently the back pass side is gone as well- not that i noticed!). They've quoted me £135 for the job. Anyone know anywhere decent in Reading/ Camberley/ Basingstoke area that's cheaper? I would attempt it myself but I'm bound to bugger the whole door up!
Cheers

get it done mate, if you can get the door to bits its really really easy. Have a read through the guide I put up on the first page if you get lost.

The runners are held on by 4 rivets (which SEAT supply replacements in the kit) drill the old rivets out and put the new ones in in place. Cant go wrong :D

The site below is quite a good guide for this job with pictures. Its for a Passat, but its the same deal at the end of the day. I had to do my passenger side window reg. when I was in Spain last year. Took about 45 min's from start to finish. Plus the window reg. from a dealer near Barcelona cost about £25 and not the £50 they try and charge here.

Seems like I'm another with a very similar problem... was going to the cinema last night when leccy window winder made some very nasty noises. leaving the window 3/4 of the way up, just enough for someone to get their hand in to open the door. Trip to flicks cancelled, and a Sunday morning in the rain trying to get the inner door panel off...
Some very helpful links on here, but nowhere says that you have to take lock mechanism out to get the panel off, but it looks like I have to do just that. Hoping it's just the regulator...

Aaaaarrggghhh.....

That wasn't much fun.
Lots of chewed up cable, but the teeth on the motor seem to be fine, so a new regulator should do the trick. Just got to drive around with a 'bare' door with the window chocked up with a block of wood until the new reg arrives... Not looking forward to fitting it though. :censored:thing!

Oh, and while I tried to get the lock mechanism out, I couldn't find a star bit to fit the door end bolts, and torx bits are just a tad too small... but got door panel out all the same, but now the little panel next to the outside door handle won't tighten up... looks like the machnism for holding it in place is a bit pants...

Just to resurrect an old thread, I had this yesterday and as Seat is much further away than VW and I was running out of time I popped to VeeDub and got the MKIV Golf repair kit. I can confirm it doesn't fit in case anyone else has a similar thought......... :(

Bizarrely its something VW carry in stock as it happens a lot yet most Seat dealers in my area its an order in part :( Not good since I need to get it fixed today and MOT'd!

Wow, this is eactly what happend to me last night once I arrived at the Pics.

Got most of it apart and now I've found this site and the step by step guide (cheers) I will finish it tonight.

it looks like on mine the cable has just come out and got twisted up so I hope to just put it all back together.

Question, My window went while down and without trying to force it too hard it wouldn't pull up. Am I just being a wimp or am I going to have to break somthing in order to get the window up to remove the metal pannel. Can the whole thing be removed with the window still attached?

Cheers

i would get the kit off ebay... its cheaper, i got one for £40 i think... its quite hard to get the cables in, i needed another person to help....

you can 100% get the door panel off without taking the locking mech out... i didnt and all works fine now :)

I had some sort of problem with the door locks after i rebuilt to door but that was due to me being ham-fisted lol.

MGbond - to get it back up, i had my passenger open the door and clamp her (my gf lol) hands on either side of the window as i pressed the up button on the door.... used plenty of force as i couldnt really see it damaging the window...

Cool. Thanks

My door is all apart already and it seems it's just the lock area still holding the panel in. Any tips on getting it out without removing the lock.

As the wires have popped out of the wheel I don't think running it and lifting will do anything (plus motor etc is already removed). If I force the window up will it break anything?

I want to fix it tonight so may have to get one from a motor factors.

did you push the little black plastic rivets through?

if yours is an LC then youll have the door locking pin rod in the way... if you have an LCR you wont have locking pins at all lol

i didnt read that correctly, i didnt see your wires have popped out... you might be able to fix it, but im not sure...

mine had chewed up inside the regulator itself so it held itself up.

I got a whole new regulator setup from Dave at Sere Motors for £42, came with new rivets etc. Mine had snapped one of the window clips and chewed up inside the spindle, but luckily the gears and motor were fine.

I took the glass completely out of the car after unbolting it, gave the bottom section a good clean cos it was manky!

Just doing mine now too! Mine made such a loud bang I thought the glass had gone!
What a nightmare job! Lee told me about the black plastic rivets! Dreading putting it back together!

Awesome! I've got the door card and that off but stil need to drill the rivets out and actualy replace the reg. Going to do it when I have a spare full day just incase I really balls it up haha!

thats why i bought this kit: LINK (obviously youd need to search for what door you need, that one is passenger front) because i didnt want to rivet etc.

The cables were a c*nt towards the end... i had to get my dad involved and we brute forced it...

for what seems like a cheap kit it works lovely, and the whole mech sounds nicer than the drivers side (which sounds weird i know, but usually when something is cheap it sounds cheap)
