i drive to work every day down tight country lane, and on standard suspension i could make the tires screech driving it hard i didnt think it rolled that much either, i used to drive the pug down the same road before i got my ibiza and it just felt like u was going faster in pug where as the ibiza hides the speed more, like 60 in the ibiza doesnt feel like 60 in the pug

try driving through some of the tight lanes here in south wales as quick as possible

some opinions may change

if your driving slow u wont notice much but pushing it, the ibiza is all wobbley and spongy

avoiding the potholes, rivers, rocks and farm animals

i had a 205 gti before, the back end was a lil twitchy...very predictable though, was more fun than scary.

Bill, got spacers when the 17's are on, not on the 16x9's though....Never expect it to handle well on them rims though with stretched rubber!

I'd be interested to hear what any of you guys consider to be 'good handling' ;)

By the sounds of it, the twitchy back end is a turn off for you lot. On paper, the Ibiza should be good if that's the kind of character it has! You want a car with a responsive rear end so you can corner properly (assuming FWD). With your 200+ hp (in most cases I'm guessing) you can easily counter the back end with a bit more throttle :)

Also, stop driving so hard on public roads. Please.

I quoted I only got it on track ;)

It may handle well, like i said, but its not confidence inspiring to push hard with the back end getting very light under hard braking.

So what causes the rear end to lift and sway around like **** when heavy braking?

Oh and ive never heard any reviews and the like referring to the mk3 ibiza as one of the best handling fwd's/hatch's or even "quite good"

205..CRX yeh maybe..

Just thought id add my lil bit... i belive the standard suspension on the ibiza isnt too bad, when i first got my car the mileage was on about 32k, so the dampers were still pretty good. the thing i do notice about the ibiza is the slight lack of steering response from the front, and BODY ROLL from the rear. Maybe alot of you are getting confused with understeer and body roll.

And going back to the conversation about the Honda DC5' & DC2's.... they have double wishbone front and rear suspension and that is the absolute ultimate when it comes to front wheel drive handling - the next stage up from that is 4 wheel drive... ive driven my friends DC5 and it handles realy well.[B)]

if you dont own an ibiza...how can u even comment? have you driven one for more than 5mins?

twitchy doesnt mean responsive.....in the ibizas case, the back end jumps around and doesnt inspire confidence, some people might have the balls to just boot it untill it straightens up but the ibiza just makes me personally feel like its on the edge much sooner than others. too much roll, power through and the outside front wheel starts bouncing around, and then a quick flick of the wrist, hard on the brake and u end up in the hedge...not that iv ever had the pleasure, but iv done a few mile in mine, iv learnt its potential and its limits and many a time i can picture something happening just as its about too.

on the track its not so bad (unless u go to 'bumpy'thorpe) i actually think id be able to hold my own against 106s/saxos at somewhere like combe if it wasnt always so packed at action days

Maybe your Cupra copes with body roll alot better than some. All cars are different. Do you have standard springs and dampers ??? And also people push there cars to differen limits... I dint notice the body roll in my car untill speeds of about 90-110mph when going round bends on motorways.

see the funny thing is iv been in 205s and i feel the complete opposite! it was active, but u knew exactly what was happening, a real feel of control!

even my old 206 lowered on just eibach springs was better than the cupra on coilovers! if it had the same power it would leave the cupra for dead when some corners arrived

An ibiza with a bit of power doesn't feel safe in long fast corners!!!!
If it was just a twitchy back end that was the problem then it would be OK.
But the problem is that when cornering at a bit of speed the ibiza wants to swap the back end with the front very very quickly:drive2:
