Trust me, you can't get the thing off, I was going to and then spray it off the car, as Aimez says, the bolts are that corroded they would not budge, even after dousing them with a generous amount of penetrant spray etc. If I had a proper set of ramps to get fully under it and get some better force on the bolts(and I had a damn good go, I'm not the smallest of guys), or some means of heating them (but I'm not sure I'd like to try that that so close to the fuel tank!), then I might have had a chance. You can tell these things are made where it's hot, the thing was damn near orange before I rubbed it down. Not as tidy a job as I would usually aim for but will keep the rust at bay for a while.
As for jacking on the axle, seemed solid enough, my only worry was it compressing the suspension and not leaving me enough room to work but it seemed fine. Guess I thought "Axle stands....they go on the axle...." lol Tbh I jacked on the sills, and didn't want to place the stands on the flange and bend it all up, and make a mess of the waxoyl on them.
