almost like your 20th birthday kinda night out then! Dunno what I will do would like to something decent for mine had rubbish last few birthdays. Must get my winter prep done too really, need some new wax! Also grease the coilovers again (only done recently but best to be safe). Enjoy your birthday you can paint the ARB whenever if your struggling with a hangover, that the only difference when your 20 you just get on with it!

Trust me, you can't get the thing off, I was going to and then spray it off the car, as Aimez says, the bolts are that corroded they would not budge, even after dousing them with a generous amount of penetrant spray etc. If I had a proper set of ramps to get fully under it and get some better force on the bolts(and I had a damn good go, I'm not the smallest of guys), or some means of heating them (but I'm not sure I'd like to try that that so close to the fuel tank!), then I might have had a chance. You can tell these things are made where it's hot, the thing was damn near orange before I rubbed it down. Not as tidy a job as I would usually aim for but will keep the rust at bay for a while.
As for jacking on the axle, seemed solid enough, my only worry was it compressing the suspension and not leaving me enough room to work but it seemed fine. Guess I thought "Axle stands....they go on the axle...." lol Tbh I jacked on the sills, and didn't want to place the stands on the flange and bend it all up, and make a mess of the waxoyl on them.

When I bought axle stands I asked the same question why are they called that! I actually sat and read the book that came with them and it said do not use on the axle and I had read it before and posted up advice on here about where and what to buy and how to use them. I am still unsure on where to jack the ibiza the pics in the manual are unhelpful. A mechanic showed me so i am okay with it now. He did not put the stand any where near the sills.

It's a tricky one near the back, the front is ok, there's some solid box sections which are pretty good for jacking on. Must say I usually go around the axle on most cars I've had, never had troubles with it. If I get a few minutes today I'll do some googling and see what I can find lol My dad's always taught me to jack on the back axle and he's been doing it about 50years now so it can't have ever seen him wrong...who knows :)

Fair enough it's easier on alot of other cars and they have jacking point clearly marked there is a crappy Seat diagram someone posted once but it is still not that clear in the pic really I would like to know as sometimes you have to put the stand and jack in different places.

My rule of thumb is if you whack it and it doesn't sound hollow...lol

I always leave the jack in position too, just in case. Never ever work under anything just on a jack though.
