@Big A

Billy confirmed they have the 1896 and has me in for next Wednesday morning for the update; no courtesy car available so its a waiting appointment but I don't mind as just want this update done.
Nice one @steviekek I'm not due in until the 29th as I needed a courtesy car, so you will have had the update for nearly 2 weeks before I get it, so can keep me posted how you get on with getting it installed and how it performs, but if @First Timer Dan post is anything to go by, it looks to be a big improvement. Also hoping it resolves the couple of drive system errors I've had, and isn't something more serious.

It's like night and day!.

The performance boost I would say is over 50%.
Very little lag from pressing a button to the screen opening.
It's pretty much instant now, the start up performance has improved loads and allows full use around 3-4 seconds after starting the ignition whereas before it would be lag city.

ACC worked flawlessly on a route where it would normally mess around.

No kmh to mph changes no issues with over taking and vehicles being inside or outside lanes.

The cupra app on the phone connects to the car quicker and sends the commands alot faster.

So far so good.

The install process took 1 hour 30 minutes. I was there for 3 hours as I had to wait for them to download 1896 from the server as it was only launched this morning.

That's not a bad wait, it's a ~16gb update

Glad to hear it's a worthwhile update!

Still waiting for them to release an update for units on 16xx though 😠

Sorry to gate crash this one as I’m a mk 4 Leon owner and it’s been a fight with the dealer to update my car, with the help of East Yorkshire retro they told me they was the 1890 update for my car, got it booked in and updated it to 1803 from 1790 and told me there was no other new update though I gave them the tpi number. Chased them up and no reply. Looks as you’ve got a good dealer as mine doesn’t seem to want to help. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Shaun, have you tried messaging another cupra dealership even if it's maybe a longer distance off they might be more helpful. My local dealership are useless, so I now travel 40 minutes to the next nearest which is a different owned group and they have been so helpful.

It's madness, The technician that did my car just hooked it up to the computer started the install and then carried on working on other vehicles. Seems like it doesn't take to much out of their day to complete the update.

I'm not so sure this undertaking issue is in fact undertaking? Has it been confirmed this is the issue by Cupra themselves (rather than dealers who'll just say or agree with anything!)?

I was driving down the M42/M40 late last night and found it slowing but noticed it was generally when on a straight road or with slight curve to the right. If the road curved to the left and the car didn't 'see' the lorry as being in front, or close to the car it didn't slow. It doesn't seem to pick up 'undertaking' cars or vans either.

If the issue is undertaking, it's pretty crap as it let me do it (i.e. overtake) many times when it shouldn't have.

Hi Dan, sounds like they may have sorted it then. Any problems emerged since?

My dealer, Motorvogue in Northampton, have still been telling me I'm on the latest software version (1790) which seems a long way behind yours. I've had the car a year now with constant issues and been told there's no fix so I'll be taking your message above and waving it under their nose forthwith!

Cheers

Jem,

Northampton motorvougue I wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole. They were my nearest garage and not very helpful to say the least. I now go to Coventry Cupra who have been great.

I have had the voice control feature randomly activating and today I had a lane assist not available error please visit dealership turning the car on and off cleared this and it started working again. So seems there are still teething issues but I can say it's worth getting upgraded to as its greatly improved and the laggy and sluggish aspect is gone for good.

I know some cupra vehicle earlier builds the upgrade isn't ready for yet according to cupra.

I hope you get it sorted I'd suggest emailing Coventry cupra and asking them to check if your car is eligible for the new update they will come back to you pretty quick on email.

Dan.

Keep me posted how you get on with Arnolds and the update Stevie. I've still a couple of weeks to wait.
So far so good driving in the way home, screen is much more responsive and not laggy so that makes me well happy

No warnings or issues in the way home but it’s early days yet

I did notice that my screen hardware is a different version from what others have posted but all’s good so far, I’ll report an issues here

That's good that its updated and didn't seem to take too long.

Also good to hear that it is more responsive. Does it seem faster starting up? I used to sit and wait on it loading up so I could switch off the stop/start etc., and would take about a minute to do its thing, whereas now I just drive off and change it as I drive out my street.

Hope all goes well with it and no further issues.

Perhaps we can get @East Yorkshire Retrofits to tell us what processor is in each of those hardware units and memory. There had been talk about more powerful infotainment units going into newer units on boards.

On like for like performance on the same hardware different firmware they might be writing tighter programs. In the old days you use to leave test code in which slowed down the program, left in for debugging, they might have done something like that and removed the debug code. Indexing is also important so if they had a useless way of indexing the data that can slow things down. They might be swapping the core program out onto a slower bus. Sorting that out helps etc.

They are using a totally different environment than what they had in the previous mib2 units. Then ofcourse you got the new databus between the control units in the car so any of those control units could in principle slow things down and the polling of those. All fun. It's 1970s / 1980s distributed control systems with 2020 hardware and probably creaky software. Had a look at the VAG chief exec education once... you can't beat applied sciences 😂 (fun subject). He would have studied distributed control systems at University as they were being developed.
