I’ve just clocked up to the 40k miles mark and car due its next annual service in August (Only covered 6k since last service) But the Cambelt and waterpump haven’t yet been changed.

I planning to book the car in for a re-map, but before I get this done do you think I should get the Cambelt etc changed? Will the re-map apply extra strain on these components?
Also what does a 40k service entail?

Cheers

How old is the car?

It's 60k miles or every 5 years - so depends. Although if you are going for more power it can't harm and you'll be gutted if it does snap!

Its not 60k.

Its visual inspection at 60k and change at 120k.

I changed mine at 75k and there was nothing wrong with it.

40k is nothing, just make sure the plugs get changed.

Im pretty sure it is 60k or 5 years, not an inspection, not being funny but what can a visual inspection tell you about a cambelt? I wouldnt have thought much exept maybe obvious visual signs like a split etc.

Mine was done by the garage i bought it off before i bought it, as it was 5 years old - Get it and your waterpump done as stated and be on the safe side.

Not saying you are mate, i'm just pointing out that it is possible for the pump to go sooner than expected.

i would get it changed mate, when i bought the car the belt had been changed at 50k by the time i hit 60k the waterpump seized and therefore had to have it all done again so make sure you have the pump as i think they are a weak part of the car

I had my cambelt changed the other week and asked for the water pump to be changed also- they showed me the pump and half the impellors were broke! 70k it was at.

Ok Guys Thanks for all your replays.

I'm going to say its better to be safe then sorry, and i'll get it charged (cambelt and waterpump) before the re-map. I'm waiting for a quote to come back for Service, Cambelt and water pump. Anyone know a place in sussex or near by that dosn't cost you an arm and a leg for this job to be done?

As someone said about getting the plugs changed at 40k service i had better do a search for the best ones.

Say goodbye to rougly 400 quid i reckon.

Maybe so - but i believe they changed it to 5 years or 60k.

You'd be mad to let it run to 120k without a change.

My Cambelt with water pump cost me £250 from SEAT portsmouth.
