I have bought 5L of Halfords own brand fully synth 5w/30 vag specific oil which meets the VW requirements for £42 and it comes with a free halfords pro screwdriver set worth £20. Edge was about £45 for 4L and no feebies.
Is this the right oil for my 01 Leon 1.4 16v. Is it best to use a OEM oil filter?

The Halfords stuff should be fine, just in the Cupra and R's its very important to get a really good quality Fully Synthetic because its a turbo and performance engine, the stuff you got will be fine in your car.
Well just managed to get 4litres of Castrol Edge 5W30 (brand new, sealed) off ebay for £25 + £6 p&p http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=330276629278&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014, so hope that was a bargain. Halfords do the 1litre for £15, so it seems a bargain

It will be fine but most of the views of people on here say that Edge is better.
Usually the best to go for would be Millers or Edge according to most of the drvers.
CASTROL MAGNATEC 10W-40 A3/B3 this time. And it is VW 505 00 according to this:-

Castrol Edge 5w/30 is excellent stuff.
I've noticed my engine is quieter when cold and is a little more eager to rev (that might be the Green panel filter though).
At the end of the day, skimping on a cheaper oil for a performance car just doesn't make sense. Give it the best and in turn it will give you its best.

Hi, sorry to bring this one back out of the woodworm but i noticed on a bottle of Castrol 5W/30 it said "For your Ford Engine", would this still be okay for use in a Leon Cupra, or is it specific to Ford only ??
