Whats being said is that they not soley for use with a sub, and do they job very well in all cars that have featured in this thread. Put out a great all round sound, not just bass.

Exactly.

Sub bass is hardly bass, that's why it has a sub in front of it.... you wouldn't expect any mid range speaker to do the role of a sub woofer. So the statement that they are designed for a sub woofer doesn't make sense. Saying that the place for a sub woofer is in the home not in a cars sound system in my humble view.

A small sub such as bass tube or the like is ok, but not to the extent of 5 18" subs in the boot.
