Correct.
You will want a switched 12v+(Comes on when ignition turns on) to power the oil temp gauge and also a 12v+ to act as the backlight for the gauge. You can can get both of these from the back of the main headlight switch.
I cannot remember the wire colours as I used a multimeter to check before cutting the wires.
One word of caution though is one of the switched lives from the headlight switch turns off when you put your headlights on!
I didn't find this out till about a week later when driving at night my oil temp gauge stopped working, pain in the arse to then do it again.
