A rainy Rockingham once again proved to be a tough challenge for team as we ironed out a few teething problems with the Supercopa. Friday testing saw us struggling with the right front corner, a problem which unfortunately took all day to resolve and was eventually diagnosed as a bent wishbone. We were happy though to have found the problem, plus a couple of other niggles and sorted them out by the end of the last session. With the 24hr race looming the whole weekend was sprinkled with various experiments and trials. Brakes, fuel, oils and several other items and set-ups were all tested throughout the meeting as we gather as much info as possible for the flagship race in October.

Raceday started brightly enough and a solid qualifying performance put is in the middle of the pack. The race began well and despite a few problems getting our trial super-endurance brake pads up to temperature, we soon clambered up 5 places and were challenging for more as we made our first pit-stop. The weather intervened shortly afterward but with only a heavy shower falling we stayed on slicks and settled in to the mid part of the race. Two more solid stints followed, but as the last quarter of the race started a huge thundery downpour bought chaos to the track! Several safety car periods followed as car after car lost control in the deluge and the pit-lane became a flurry of frantic activity as everyone stopped for wets. We then lost several places due to extra stops to clear a misted up windscreen! This was a valuable lesson though as the car will now be modified with a demisting system. The conditions proved to be so bad that race control bought the chequered flag out early, leaving us 16th overall.

In all, a very satisfactory result but tinged with the disappointment that we could have easily challenged for the top ten. We did however learn a huge amount about the car this weekend and will be better prepared for the 24hr because of it.

Speaking of the 24hr, we have now begun sorting out tickets and passes for visitors. For anyone who hasn't been to see us yet, this really is the one to come to. The weekend will include trade stands, airshows and a funfair and you'll be able to get right up close and personal with all the race cars during the public pit and grid walks. As always we'll be welcoming guests to the BPM pit and really hope to see some of you there. Details here: http://www.bpmracing.co.uk/24hr.html

Cheers! and see you soon.

Owen & Ashley.

Last Race at Brands Hatch

It was the last race of the season for the Supercopa at the weekend and the car ran brilliantly! In fact, other than the bit of a hiccup in the 24hr, the car has been awesome since we switched to it mid-season! It's an amazing piece of equipment and we're only just beginning to grasp some of it's potential.

Friday testing was very difficult, with the conditions changing from damp to wet and with the temperature down in single figures keeping heat in the tyres was a real challenge as was the patchy track, it was very easy to lose control in a wet area....as this onboard video of a couple of laps shows!...

Sterling work from the team soon saw the front fixed and the car was set-up ready for qualifying.

We completed the installation lap without any issues and set about building the heat up in the car for a fast lap. We knew the Bullrun Seat would be quick and that the Cox escort would enjoy some great traction on the cold track but with the seconds ebbing away we managed to put in a 52.6, good enough for 18th overall and just pipping Bullrun to the class pole.

As night fell we switched to our spare bonnet, which has our uber lighting rig on it! We've learn't that lighting is everything with night racing and as the green flag fell we began the 90 minute battle in the dark. I kept well out of the way of Bullrun and the Wilds BMW at the start - they were battling for the championship and I didn't want to be the meat in that sandwich! It turned out to be a good move as they took each other out slightly later in the race!

We enjoyed some good battles with the topcat marcos and the Lunn Civic, and clambered up to 14th before our first pitstop. Unfortunately we didn't restart the car in the correct sequence after the refuel which left Ash without a working dash. A quick second stop soon saw it fixed, but in our hurry to get back out before we lost too much time, we exited the pit lane before the minimum 90 seconds....A 2 lap penalty ensued and despite a sterling effort from Ash, including the class fastest lap, we couldn't quite claw it back.

We finished 4th in class and although disappointed with the result, we continue to improve our performance and are really looking forward to next year. We'll make a few changes over the off season and will be back to challenge for the Britcar Production Championship class 2 win next season! Big congratulations to the Bullrun team who took the champ by 1 point from the lawson/wilds BMW!

O. :)

Obes do the Wheels stick out of the arches or are they in line with the Arches? and do they use spacers?

Reason i ask is Dave (i think his name was) From Supercopa UK has offered me some of them wheels but looking at them they will to far to wide for the standard road going Leons.

Hey Andrew,

It depends on whether he's got the 'old' 8" ones which the supercopa UK used to run or the 'new' eurospec ones which are 9.5". We run the 9.5's and they definitely stick out of the standary body. The supercopa has extra arches to keep them in.
