James I might have to ask you to make me some of those centres !!

Haha maybe Tom, they take too long to machine to mass produce, I may do you a set if you give me your bonnet though ;)

HiSpec R114 Racing calipers, are those the same as what Joe had on hes car?

Do they mount straight on?

Joe who??

RobbieC has the same setup.. dont know of anyone else who does. Yes they are a bolt on fit though mate (brackets supplied)

Oh no Joe has a set of 280mm Tarox 6pots.

I have never tried the R114's before but Joe Hirth reckons they are better than his brembo's.

I'm sure when Robbie comes online and reads all this he will give us a good review.

Someone say my name? Just read your PM James but may as well reply to everyone in here.

My car runs the HiSpec R114 (4 pot) calipers with 310 x28mm discs and DS3000 pads to good effect, though I'm not sure I would recommend the kit for some of the issues I have had.

The kit was supplied as a prototype for MK2 Golf GTI fitment (same hubs) but it turned out the Ferodo pad backing plates fouled slightly on my bells, so they had to be sent back to be machined and even now it's f--king close. My other option was to run slightly smaller pads but I wanted as much surface area as possible.

That being said the brakes themselves do perform very well, and I've not had any issues using the DS3000s on the road, bearing in mind I use it as a weekend/track toy so when it comes out it gets hard abuse. I do appear to have warped my discs from my last track day at Castle Combe though... but at £100 per disc they're not too bad to replace.

With DS2500s I literally incinerated the brake pads, making them crumble away and fade quite badly, whereas the 3000s take everything I throw at them (but f--k me they're dusty)

The big plus of this kit for me was the calipers fit underneath standard Cupra alloys as I wanted to keep it looking OEM, though if Ihad enough clearance I'd personally sway for the AP kit.

One other thing to mention - these calipers don't come with dust seals but tbh most people you speak to seem to think they only melt under hard abuse (i.e. track use) anyway.

When Dale replaces my discs and pads we just make sure the pistons are cleaned out thoroughly with brake cleaner and that nothing is seized up

Haha your ears must have been burning!

Thanks for the review robbie.

I have done a few calcs and I may be able to squeeze 315/320mm disks under my wheels which could resolve the pad clash issue (the calipers are designed to be used with 315mm disks)

I am aware of there being no seals, again doesnt bother me as mine is also going to be a weekend/track toy.

I would love an AP kit but there just so damn expensive :( Hispec do an AP disk upgrade which could be a solution to the warped disks...

I think I have misinterpreted the AP rotor part actually, it turns out they are HiSpec Rotors for AP Calipers NOT AP rotors for hispec calipers.

I will be getting the curved vein race groove rotors which are much more effective in disbusring heat at higher temps,

Am I right in thinking you have straight vein normal groove rotors Rob?

They are normal groove, the race grooves stop before the edge of the disk to prevent cracking under extreme temps..

You have got me a little worried about warping disks! but as you say they arent very expensive too replace so I think ill just see what happens.

Good too hear it gets driven propperly, I cant wait untill my gearbox goes.. it will give me the kick I need too get the "you know what" haha :D

Cool - maybe I'll ask about those grooves when I order some replacement discs in the next couple of weeks. If you do ring to enquire about this kit ask them to look at the notes for Order #500 (mine) so they can see what adjustments needed to be made to the bells if you want to run Ferodo pads.

Thanks Rob, I have made them aware, I think the solution will be to try and run 315x32 disks.
I am hopeing the curved veins and the thicker disk then warping will be less of an issue.. we shall see

You should have plenty of room for 315s based on this:

I'm trying to remember how I came to the decision to run 310 x 28mm now, I assume it was because I was asking for a MK2 Golf kit as they didn't understand Ibiza Cupra.

James - bear in mind they also sell the slightly more heavyweight Billet 4 kits in Golf 2 fitment which might also be an option where you have greater wheel clearance.

The caliper only adds 15mm to the radius of the disk, (30mm to the dia)
I have measured 360mm ID at the narrowest point on the wheel, so..

360 - (315+30) / 2 gives me 7.5mm clearance between the caliper and wheel

I am going to tripple check all my measurements tonight as I now have a technical drawing from HiSpec I can compare with.

I remember making a cardboard template and checking mine for clearances, I worked out I had at worst 2mm clearance to the OE Cupra alloy spokes and seems I wasn't far off:

I have quite a lot of clearance to the back of the spokes too, but worst case a 5mm spacer can be used.

The moment of truth will be when I bolt it all up and find out I need too go back too school haha

Im still in discussions at the minute but I shall let you know the outcome.

I worked on that same theory, though when I used 5mm spacers on the front it didn't feel too good as they can't be hubcentric at that thickness. Best avoided if possible - interested to see how you get on
