Ibiza ecomotive mk4 and mk5 what are they like?

I got my mk4 eco just over a year ago. Done best part of 30k in it already. can get 500 miles to a tank easily on motorways without looking at speed. But i reckon if you drive consertivly could get best part of 700 miles out of it.

On a side note, top gear race from switzerland to blackpool. hammond drove the eco's twin the bluemotion on one tank, (suposedly).

I got my 1.4 ECO about 7 weeks ago and have done 5,600 miles already as Im a fairly high mileage driver (daily commute of 110 miles ish).

Im do keep a log of my running costs, MPG etc and Im seeing consistently around 60mpg (90% motorway at 'around' the NSL).

In response to an earlier comment...I do consider myself to be a 'motoring enthusiast' but running anything remotely exciting would bankrupt me

Anyways, hope to see you guys a lot more as I will be on here now

Sounds great.

I've decided due to the mileage I do (not a lot as I use a big scooter for commuting which gets me at least about 65mpg on my commute but also gets me through the traffic jams), that I'm not going to change my car for a while, there's no real point.

However when the time comes to change my car which may be years yet, I definitely going to seriously consider an ECOmotive.

Interesting, my 1.9 tdi sport has done a similar mileage (5900) on mostly motorways (same speeds and 130 mile round trips) and i get 57 -62 mpg!

Even though the SEAT dealer told me the 'run in period' was upto around 5K, I suspect Im not going to see anything near the quoted figures of 70+mpg until 10K at least.

On the 10K service, Im going for the revo remap so maybe that will change the numbers??

Also, Ive run it exclusively on BP Ultimate, but not quite got to the magic 10 fill ups yet.

thank for a lot of intersting little things, such as this magical 10th fill up ill look forward to that, hopefully after many hundreds and hundreds of miles!
i got my ibiza ecomotive earlier today! ive driven it 7 miles and its churned out 35mpg, but its nice to know that itll take time, before that mpg works it way up.

I have a new Seat Ibiza which has now done 7000 miles and I am getting 62 mpg. This may sound good to many of you, but I am very disappointed! My Seat replaced a Renault Clio 1.5 DCI in which I used to average 70 mpg - yes I do pride myself on driving economically! This 70 mpg was midway between the combined and extra urban figures for this engine, so I hoped I would get at least 80 mpg out of the Ibiza on my normal rural journey into work.

I recommend anyone thinking of buying the Ibiza Ecomotive for its claimed economy to think again.

P.S. Don't rely on the mpg display, mine always reads over 10% higher than the actual mpg.

Thanks for your reply, very interesting, on my last 3 cars i've always managed to get averages (actual, not computer) more than the quoted combined mpg figure, an ecomotive is a possible next car for me and despite what the dealer says (he said you'd get no where near 75mpg) i thought i'd get higher than the quoted figure, you've put a doubt in my mind now.

The super-frugal Ibiza Ecomotive has once again proved its green credentials by clocking up astonishing average fuel economy of 120.4 mpg on a mammoth 1,186-mile tour of 12 European countries.

At the wheel was economy driving specialist Gerhard Plattner. In April, the Austrian notched up an average of 97.4 mpg on a drive from SEAT SA’s HQ at Martorell, near Barcelona, to Göttingen in Germany in April.

This time Herr Plattner set out from Cieszyn in Poland after the IPMC (International Police Motor Corporation) sealed both the SEAT’s bonnet and its fuel filler. Then, with around 45 litres of fuel at his disposal, the Austrian economy ace embarked on his ambitious tour of 12 Europe.





Herr Plattner drove through the cities of Mosty (Czech Republic), Bratislava (Slovakia), Hegyeshalom (Hungary), Graz (Austria), Varazdin (Croatia), Maribor (Slovenia), Toblach (Italy), Innsbruck (Austria), Schaan (Liechtenstein), Zurich (Switzerland) and Saint-Louis (France) before finishing in Frankfurt (Germany).

Just like to add ive got one of the original Ibiza 1.4TDI (BNV 80BHP) Reference sport's (£120 tax)


Its a cracking little engine , Ive had mine Custom Code Phase 1'd running somewhere around 100-114bhp

Ive decided now tho that i want something with power rather than Economy So decided to chop her in for a Leon FR TDI 170

Just gonna dig this thread up from the dead again as two years later I'm now thinking again about the Ecomotive - or perhaps just the 1.2 TDi non-ecomotive model.

What I'd like to know is if the peformance would be similar to my current (slow) 1.4 petrol. I've seen lots of reviews and they seem to like it though some slate the poor little engine on performance saying you ahve to work it (duh it's 1.2 ....) but I have to work my 1.4 because it's underpowered and I currently get none of the fuel benefits.

Thinking I might go for a test drive on Friday perhaps... as I have the afternoon off...

Any further comments from owners?

Dont bother with the 1.2 tdi. Try the 1.2 tsi, does good mpg and goes quick enough

I agree with this, I think the 1.2TSI is a much better option - eco/performance blend in a quieter more refined engine.

And no DPF issues that you get from the CR Diesel

Thanks for the thought guys, I had looked that that... will look at it in more detail. Sounds like fun - which my current car isn't too much because its too slow.

What's the real mpg though? As if it wasn't for the economy I'd be keeping my current beezer which I do love to bits despite it's faults after all I've had it 5 1/2 years now with no real problems and it all still seems fine so no real other reason to change..... I need to be able to justify the upgrade to my OH you see.

To be fair, it is quite a while since anyone complained about the DPF. In my experience the DPF works well, 20,000 miles and not a single issue. I believe the issues were more to do with Dealers not explaining to customers that their car had a DPF and the considerations they needed to pay to it, than the DPF actually being faulty.
That said there were a few owners of early DPF equiped cars who did have genuine problems but they would seem to be resolved now.
I certainly would have no problem with buying another Seat equipped with a DPF!

Can someone point me to a thread that explains the DPF issues?

The TSI looks lovely but I can't find a model with aircon on the configurator... unless I'm not looking expensive enough (and therefore out of my budget as it looks like the TSI is on the more expensive side - understandibly perhaps)... I'm used to the climate control on my current SX you see, wouldn't want one without at least aircon if not climate control.
