Just got in from playing golf and my struts were on the door mat But I'll have to do some more modding as the end connections that came with them are M8 but I'll sort that out at work tomorrow
i got some metal i can make into brackets at work and there already bent to the right shape just need cutting and drilling,im unsure if i should try my own idea or go with the tryed and tested idea.
edit looking at the picture my idea will not work as well as pabs so im going to make mine the same hopefully whats the measurement between the the hole where the strut bolts on and the closest bonnet bolt?
yea i didnt think about that.
so whats the measurement between the hole where the strut bolts on and where the bracket attaches to the bonnet do you know off the top of your head?
I have the full diagram from my design in the first few posts.
You will NOT get away with 1 bolt holding the bracket - the weight and force used to open/close the bonnet will definately twist the bracket and either snap the bracket or worse, the bolt.
EDIT: I know this for a fact as my first prototype used 1 bolt.
Gonna make some brackets up tonight on nightshift as the Toolroom will be empty!
For anyone wanting to try this in Scotland, AA components in Bridge of Allan sell struts for £30 for two, i got mine off an old assembly machine access door at the work!
Look good, but no hole in the o/s for the clip that secures your windscreen washer hose...?
I didn't bend mine either, made from ali angle just like you
maybe this has been aked before, but... guffers / damoegan , where did you get your lifters and ball head bolts from, and were the lifters 400nm each like pab's - if so, do they cause any problems like to much force on the lift that pabs referred to?
i dont really want to order the lifters from an internet site as i am not home during delivery hours and they dont fit through the letter box
i was hoping to find a shop so i dont have to prat about tracking down or re-organising deliveries
