No nitrous, it would cost a fortune on track.

Still reading up on fitting an eaton charger, standard compression and low boost. Might just buy a blower at some point so I have to do it.

not too shabby for a first time run...better than the egg-timer needed for the Beat!
2nd / 3rd gear for the twisty bits, just about grabbing 4th on the straight,an almighty 60mph! brake 100m ish for Flagpole.
bit different to the Scooby's on same day, 92-95mph !

I was hitting around 70 down the straight I think, shifting to 3rd just before the timing hut.

Just watched a few clips of the faster guys and I clearly dont use enough of the track, looking foreward to the next one now so I can slash my time.....hopefully

Small update..

The abs is sending me stupid!!! After a hunch from diagnostics I spent part of the day cleaning my front ABS trigger wheels with no joy Next up is to buy a multimeter so I can check the sensors and wiring properly, could do with VAGcom aswell.


On to my spark plugs, pulled them out to see how they were looking, what do we think to the condition of them? They look abit sooty to me, which points to running rich?

Yeah, VAGCOM will suss it straight away for your ABS issues

It'll probably tell you that your coolant temp sensor is up the swanny too (hence the black plugs)

The temp sensor hasn't really crossed my mind as I replaced that the last time round (maybe 3 plus year ago), think it was a GSF special though so could be causing an issue now.

My mechanic friend will be pee'd off if VAGcom finds the faults and his muchos wonga snap-on kit can't.

Front and rear, right ABS sensors are throwing up faults. No engine codes are showing which I wasn't expecting, maybe its not run enough?

Going to swap the wires on the back sensors to make sure it is the sensor thats at fault and not the ABS ECU as I have read is a common fault on mk3 golfs

Nothing fantastic on the update front, think I need to step up my game....

Hopefully this next one has helped with my rough running, breather pipe into the inlet wasn't seated properly so must have been causing a leak. Filter is temp until I sort a catch can, I'll be keeping an eye on the oil for moisture.

Finally took the headlining out

The sunroof gubins must weigh the same as a small badger, im thinking about taking a mould from the glass and making a fibre glass panel to replace it all. Think this is a good idea? Strong enough and acceptable on track?

On the future mods front, diesel exhaust manifolds and 5 psi have replaced the naughty thoughts about eatons. May have to start a thread and see what info I can gather

Purely assumption on the badger front

From what I understand, the diesel manifold fits the 8v head......well I hope it does or this idea goes out the window. The standard compression of the 8v should be good for and safe at 5psi of boost, ideal for the small diesel turbo. Im assuming I can use part of the diesel down pipe but bodge on the CAT from a mk3 cupra (have one of these already) to sort the remainder of the exhaust side. Small intercooler, sort the oil feed, wooshy dump valve, management and a host of other things I haven't thought about yet and bobs your mothers brother.

Not overly fussed about massive power yet, just thought this would be a nice idea on a decent budget yet have potential for more power in the future.......drop compression and up da boooost!

Aghhhhhhh!

ABS faults are back! Front right is showing up again and rear right. I need to learn how to use a multimeter and test the wiring.

What controls the ABS? Is it the main ECU or is there a separate controller?

Question...would you say its retarded to remove the rear bumper iron? Its got some weight in it and a lot of track golfs run bumper less which is essentially the same thing.

If you're on the road I wouldn't - it's not what you do, it's what the others do when they tap the back of you, bend the floor & maybe kink the roof all too easily

what m0rk said, if just for track then yeah, but as you most likely will drive it to the track (unless you trailer it) then no point!

Your right, for the extra bit of weight its something that could save the shell in a rear end tap. Back on it goes.

Got the rear ABS sensor fault to clear btw, bit of fiddling with the connector again.

Purchased 3 bottles of 80w gearbox oil as I figured with 100k on the clock it might be a good idea to give the box some love. I've ended up with 2 bottles of G5 and 1 of G4.......should have checked before I left the motor factors

Fuel filter, I've never actually looked for it but can a simple in line filter be used as a replacement?

Looks easy enough to do and the oils not expensive.

Probably won't have been done unless its had a new box, think the oils meant to be in there for life but it can't be a bad idea to freshen it up for the price.
