The care is a 16v ABF gti Cupra and the back box is the 20VT ibiza.

Hi i know there are several MK2 exhaust and MK3 back box threads but i require some information please.

I have a MK3 back box diameter 55mm and have purchased a central silencer MK2 but the internal and externals dameters seem all wrong.

Firstly should the mk2 central silencer fit the MK3 box as i know the MK2 system uses a clamp but i have seen sleeves used in mk3. Also the external diameter i got on the centre silencer SE71B is 45mm which fits in the back box like arm in wizards pocket.

I dont have a silencer but a striaght through pipe plus a after market exhaust so excuse my lack of knowledge, i have seen the pictures but am currently arming myslef with information so i can get this exhaust sorted

Many thanks

mk3 box and centre sleeve's straight to an ABF

clamp type pipe is an aftermarket one

SE71B is a timax 2.0 8v pipe and is too small in bore

you need an ABF mk2 centre or a mk3 20vt centre

part number reference matches up but from memory i'm sure the 16v is 55.5 both joints

looking at etka it lists the sleeves for AGG as 50 and 55.5 which matches with the diagram above a treat

ABF is listed as 55.5 only

SE71B is listed different to your measure for starters so could be labelled wrong but even if matching the list it will still be 5.5mm too small for the mk3 rear box

must get under mine and measure up when i rip it all off again

Im speaking tomorrow to the company so now i can state that the bore appears to be 8v, its was all dented and mashed up as well so im [:@]. All the internet exhausts i find for 16v are stated as SE71b but i really dont want to try another. Shall get this piece of junk sent back and head to my nearest auto factors for a mk2or3 with the sleeve i think

Many thanks

The diagrams i have seen show external 50mm to got into a 50.5mm internal of the back box and a wider 'flared' 55.5 internal for over the CAT.

factors might not be much help to be honest Timax/Walker/Bosal (even being the manufacturers the originals are made by) don't clearly list the 16v but i can double check em all tomorrow

taking a fitting sleve down to em will be the best bet but a reducer would get round it if needed

just double check which way the hanger brackets face too although you can bolt swap mk2/mk3 rubbers anyway

I purchased two new clamps SYA10 and rubbers VAR28 x2 and var23 (Which for some reason has no holes to allow hanger to pass through) just incase the set i have were no good. This is harder than i thought. Wanted to keep the 50mm throughout really, no reducers

Yeah i know. I spent so long reading through previos thread regarding the straight swop of mk3 box to mk2 silencer. Just never thought i would have problems with the centre silencer! would help if companies knew there products tho, look at the state of this:

seen and straightened worse that arrives off our lorry, got a pipe expander (butt plug) that gets regular use banging em back into shape :(

just had the somewhere close (very near :)) measure on mine and it's 55.5mm all the way through cat/middle/rear all sides of the sleeves

Thanks alot for that. Much appreciated. See what i can achieve tomorrow. Will get that sent back and sort out a mk2 box with a mk3 sleeve, bearing in mind the 55mm. Cheers Fl@pper:thumbup:

one question tho, how is the sleeve 55 when i goes over the pipes? is it fill piece that gets clamped on?

sleeve's are 55.5mm optimum but admittedly they open larger and work in a 4/5mm window either side
