oh really? well the spacers do sit on top of the dampers shaft, but fits inbetween the lower mount, and thats what's fluffed on mine!
let me know if you can get it, if not don't worry mate, much appreciated :D

and good luck on the hybrid hubs lol, looking good so far!

Yeah i could only find one spare at the moment, still havent got round to looking for the others or the glove box yet and im away this weekend so probably be sunday night now! But just to make sure your after the lower section of the top mount the bit that fits on the underneath of the turret or on top of the strut whichever way round you do it? Getting confused here  lol

hi there

i'm doing a similar project. Bought an ibiza on november 08 with the engine ruined, a 97 1.4 16v 100bhp 5 door GT model, first i was going to get it fixed to sell and earn some, but then i realised i had to do an engine replacement and i could not escape from getting something a little bigger, so i bought a complete vr6 engine with gearbox dials etc

I'm not using vr6 parts as u are, i used corrado G60 transmissions, hubs brakes, for the rear i'm replacing the entire axel for a mk2 golf gti one with mk4 calipers (mk2 have some issues)

Already have the engine in place, sorting some things out, electricals almost done, need new alloys to fit the brakes in (on the stock 14"s they dont fit) installed vr6 dials on the dashboard the last weekend as the stock just had the scale up to 220Km/h and that's kinda low as the stock vr6 does the 260km/h it promises ;)

I will have to do a full exaust of course, i will have no cats, maybe i will fit some good headers, already have some aggressive cams to install too

Looking to do about 220bhp when ready.

Then i will see if i like the car, if not i will sell it, i have alredy my pocket beast, the 92 polo squareback with g40 heart ;)

Keep up the good work, will see who finishes first ! I think here in portugal i will be the only one having a mk2 6cil ibiza, may be the only 6cil ibiza tbh

Cheers

Jaime

Sounds like its going well :) you should be finished alot quicker than me as i havent even looked at the engine yet since i got it out :( lol

I'm still deciding what to do with the front drive train at the moment, it would be alot easier for me to use the Ibiza GTI wishbones, hubs, shafts and then just bolt some 280mm brakes on but i've just compared all the Ibiza and VR6 stuff and everything is alot beefier in the way of driveshafts and wishbones etc and even the diameter of the wheel bolts and its obviusly done because of the extra bhp and torque outputs so im in two minds of what to do

I dont want to fit the Ibiza stuff if im going to be snapping driveshafts all the while but then again i dont really want to 5 stud convert it because i dont want to sell my cupra wheels  lol

Get some pics up of how yours is going anyways ;) ive got a small update for mine aswel

Cheers, Dan!

Dunno bout the ibiza gti stuff but the corrado G60 parts are very strong.
I know a guy here that is a G expert (g40 & g60) he is the guy that services and build a big part of my G Van. He is a genious on those cars, and he is supplying me with the VW parts i need taken from corrados, and he is posite it will cope with all the power my car will put down..

Paid nothing for the whole setup (transmissions hubs brakes & gear linkage) this is all from the G60.. just traded this stuff for my 1.4 16v head and ruined block :)

ahhh i almost forgot to tell u that to keep the stock pedals u will need to buy an adaptor for the clutch as the vr6 has an hidraulic system while the ibiza is a cable one. It's the same they use on the ibiza gti, the kit cost me around 100€ it's like a lever with some rubber parts

will u have abs ? i decided not to.. @ least for now

i want A/C so i will have to ditch a system from other car somehow

sorry bout my english, i'm portuguese ;)

cheers

Fair enough, i'm guessing the G60 stuff is the same sort of spec as the 2.0l 16v Ibiza stuff isn't it?

Don't worry bout the pedals though, i got the pedal box out of the VR6 golf i got the engine out of so it will all be a straight swap. Will have to drill a hole or two in the bulkhead though!

I have got the ABS pump and sensors etc, but its just adapting the ABS rings to the 4 stub hubs thats going to be the problem so i think im just going to 5 stud convert it for the time being and get a different set of wheels as everyones got cupra wheels now...will be sad to see them go though lol

The golf my engine came out had A/C but i dont really agree with it so that was the first thing to go...just got to take the pump off the engine and get a non A/C belt. A/C is just a drain on power and fuel and is extra weight so i'd rather put the window down :D

Right i've got another little update, seperated the hubs and driveshafts ready to compare them and see if i could make a 'hybrid' hub setup of both the VR6 and Ibiza hubs and turns out...I cant :( lol

Ibiza left, Vr6 right

Vr6 left, Ibiza right

As you can see from the pics the Vr6 driveshaft splines are alot bigger and beefier, even the diameter of the wheel bolts are bigger and this is obviusly because of the extra bhp and torque so im unsure what to do now

Ive got a couple of options, just use Ibiza stuff i.e wishbones, driveshafts, hubs, and either buy new ABS rings and fit them or adapt the 5 stud ABS rings which could be alot of work and i dont want to risk snapping driveshafts all the time!

I could weld the 5 stud hubs up then re drill them as 4 stud which is alot of hassle and work again.

Or just 5 stud convert it which could be a first on here? and opt for a different set of alloys as everyones got cupra rims nowadays. Think i may be doing this to be different lol so im looking out for some original/standard fit VAG 15s with 5x100 pcd at the moment, anyone got any suggestions?

I stripped the rear subframes the other week so i thought i'd post another little update...

DSC00308.jpg

Ibiza rear subframe with Ibiza stubs and discs on the outside VR6 stubs and discs with ABS sensors in the middle

The VR6 stub axles will bolt straight onto the Ibiza subframe and im going to get my dad to make some spacer plates that will go inbetween the two so i dont have to fcuk around buying spacers and longer wheel bolts lol

Im now in the process of cleaning, de-greasing and removing all the rust from everything i've stripped ready to zinc coat and spray with god knows what yet lol want something thats going to last...was thinking underbody sealant or stonechip paint then whatever colour over the top of that?

Also been on the look out for some new 5 stud wheels as im converting it to 5 stud to save hassle and as Crezz said there is loads of nice wheels out there!

For starters you can get Mk3 cupra rims in 5 stud off the Toledos :p but im thinking i want something completely different so i've been looking at these...

BBS montreal 16's

BBS 15's that came standard on some mk3 Golfs :p

Audi Pepperpot 15's Mmmmmmmm :D

Or just some standard 15 or 16 steelies painted bright red probably...Decisions decisions!

What you lot think?

Could you explain how you did the wiring for the cigarette ligther? I bought a Polo cig lighter, but I didn't see any wiring in the back. So what would I have to do in regards to wiring the lighter?

I wired it to the live, neutral and lighting feed from the radio (red = live, brown = neautral and blue and green = lighting feed) you may struggle though if you havent got the plug that clips into the back of the lighter itself!

I took absoulutely everything apart from the wiring to the back lights etc i just cut it off along the sills just behind the front doors to save time!
There is loads to be honest ive got 2 black bags full of wiring...i'm hoping to do a complete loom swap and just cut off anything i dont need!
