No real updates as of yet...just been sourcing more parts as you do  lol

Bought some GTI twin lamp headlights that were abit grubby so i've seperated the glass from the backs ready to paint the reflective outer edge black :p anyone else ever done this?

Also found an old Audi Quattro? steering wheel that will be going on if i can sort the right boss for it!

Getting quotes on powdercoating all the subframes etc as we speak and trying to make room so i can get my car stripped out  lol

Will post anymore progress as it happens!

Cheers for looking, Dan!

Some progress at last!

So i finally found some space to put the mass of parts i've collected over the past couple of months :p lol and actually got cracking with the car itself!!!

Over the weekend i stripped all the dash, seats and carpets etc out ready to assess the rust situations and its not looking to bad so far...thank god lol there's just abit of rust around 2 of the plug holes but nothing too major!

This is how the cars looking now...

The front seats and steering wheel are back in it now so i can still move it if needed but they'll be back out soon to sort the dreaded rust out!

The first pic looks worse than it is as there was a plug there before but i pushed it abit too hard  lol
The spots in the second pic aren't too bad atall and could get away with flatting them down and treating etc!

My dad also sent the subframes to the shotblasters/powdercoaters today aswell :D they should be back by friday...cant wait to see them all shiney again lol

Thats about it for now, will post pics more pics etc when i get stuff back from the powdercoaters and strip my car abit more! Coming along nicely though :)

Thanks again, Dan!

Thats the Ibiza rear beam I presume?

and ibiza front one + arms too ? what bits did ya join up for the shaft in the end ? 16v shares same size inner joint/box else that might help

i would guess a shaft + inner cv with a vr6 outer to match ya hubs if staying 5 stud

goddamn why powdercoated parts looks so damn good :):):)

Arms look like VR6 ones to me:shrug:

Currently looking at a VR6 set up for mine, will need - VR6, hub uprights, VR6 wishbones, VR6 bearings, 16v hub flanges, 16v outer CV's, Passat drive shafts and inner CV's and passat tie rods and wider arches etc

Cheers for the comments everyone :D

As for the answers...I'm using the complete standard VR6 front end:- front and rear crossmembers (which are exactly the same as the Ibiza ones), VR6 wishbones, driveshafts, VR6 5 stud Hubs, ARB and brakes. Reason for this is because it looks stronger, better quality and its slightly wider but will have to roll and pull arches to make it fit lol :p can also use the original ABS unit, sensors and rings so i dont have to buy or modify anything!

At the back i'm using standard Ibiza subframe, VR6 stub axles spaced about 25-30mm between subframe and stub axle, welded up aswel for extra precaution (save fcuking about with hubcentric spacers), VR6 rear brakes (same as Ibiza again) and lots of rolling and pulling to get it to fit!

I want to use standard VAG bushes etc all round at first so when i do change to polybushes i can see/feel and compare the differences they "should" make, same with the suspension and ARBs...will use standard VR6 front struts, standard Ibiza GTI rears and original ARBs see what it handles like, then will probably go for lowering springs because i'll want it low ASAP then eventually coilies or a nice spring/damper combo, along with uprated ARBs!

Will post more when it happens over the weekend,

Thanks again, Dan!

Couldnt you just use the VR6 driveshafts and change the outer cv to the 16v one? same with steering rack and tie rods, its identical apart from the rods are longer or the tie rod ends are adjusted more to make up the extra width?

Nope - those bits arnt interchangable on the drive shaft.

you would wind out the tie rods's to compensate for the width but that doesnt leave much scope for adjustment and you want as much rod end in the tie road as possible

How you going to accomadate the wheels in the arches as they're goign to protrude way past the wing - I doubt no amount for rolling will bridge the gap:shrug:

the 16v cv joints will fit on the end of the vr6 shaft they are the same size spline

also i ran the full vr6 set up on mine for a few months before it shattered the bearing casing on the inner cv joint and this is why

when i put it all together my wheels where towing in, even when i wound the track rod ends fully in they still towed in, so i measured the ibiza from strut top to strut top and found that the ibiza is narrower between the tops than the golf(an inch iirc)

so i ended up using the ibiza rack and everything lined up ok but because the wide track set up is half an inch wider at each side combined with all of the above it must have been puttin a lot of strain on the bearings

i hope that helps:D

Hmm interesting - I shall be using Passat driveshafts for my own use's as I'm only going to be putting out around the 225+ mark and a whole lot less torque than a VR engine

Puts a few spanners in the works lol are you still using the VR6 wishbones etc just with the Ibiza rack?

Also are you running ABS? As im unsure if I'll have to change the whole loom if i wanted to use it

Cheers for any help...Dan!
