Haha, just a light dusting on each wheel!!

I'll do 1 at a time and see how it goes. I want to check the colour as well, cos I'm still thinking about spraying them silver. I'm not sure what the best colour for a silver car is...

Defo stick with a darker colour....not too dark though as the wheels won't stand out enough. Silver on silver is boring I think

I think the darker wheels look a bit more unusual than the silver ones. They also hide the brake dust better. I like my silver FR alloys with the silver car, but a change would be good.

I think the Volvo dark grey is quite similar to yours - which is good!

Once the wheels a cleaned/refurbed if I don't like the grey I can spray them whatever I like! Purple or gold maybe??

Well, started doing them yesterday - it's costing me a fortune in materials.

Personally, I've always liked the rough and ready alloy wheel look....

If they're any good when I've finished, I'll post some pics. If not, I'll go and hide somewhere....

Paint and materials does start to add up if you buy it from Halfords! I think all in mine cost 50 quid in materials and paint.

Why didn't you get the tyres removed before you started? Now the tyre man has two chances to scuff the fresh paint! I personally don't sand down the final colour coat before lacquer as sometime the sanding marks show through.

Btw are you spraying them standing up like in the photo?

I sprayed the inner edges of the spokes with the wheel standing up.....then laid the wheel flat to spray the face. The paint settles much better and the finish is more uniform

Ah well, doing it for the first time so didn't quite know how much I needed. Will need a few more cans of dark grey though.

I thought about removing the tyre, but it just ended up better leaving them on. Due to the budget, I'll be using 2 of them anyway.

I might try that for the next 2 wheels. I'm still learning how to spray - I sprayed too far away on one of them and the paint dried before it hit the wheel!!

No, fraid not. I did them both at the same time. I've just got some decent paint from a local factor - U-Pol stuff.Just sprayed another coat. Lacquer next I think.

Right then, finished refurbing the wheels;



Quite happy with the results, bearing in mind I could write a long thread about how not to refurb your wheels!!

Sanded the first two, but decided to Nitromors the last two. That was hard work. Took the masking tape off before, after applying carnauba wax and Poorboys wheel sealant.

Getting 2 new tyres tomorrow so the wheels should be on by Friday.

I agree but they would look like a Skoda, and I've just bought some high temp red paint to redo the calipers.

Those speckles on the wheel is just the paint flaking off the masking tape....

Yeah, half and half. Bought the U-Pol high build primer from them and then used Halfords own filler primer after that. Used their Volvo Dark Grey as an undercoat (as it's sh!t) and got several cans of U-Pol's own paint from a local paint shop for the final coats. Then Halfords own lacquer.

Hope it lasts!!!

Well your refurb looks great fella.
I had my wheels refurbed by the Dealer before I bought the car.
I think they refurbed them the wrong colour, So I think I got what Looks like anthricite.

Looks great against the silver, Might go darker however when I get some cash

Yours look great - they do seem to be darker than standard. I'll stick a pic up of mine when they're on the car.

They look really good When they're fully cured give them a good polish with a bit of cutting compound (I used T-cut) and they get a really glossy finish

Good advice. The paint still seemed a bit 'soft' yesterday. How long does it take to harden? I'm having the tyres fitted tomorrow and will tell the garage to be careful!!

Whatever you do don't get the tyres fitted tomorrow! If the paint isn't fully hardened it'll just peel off when the guy pushes the tyre over the rim. I left mine for a week next to a radiator before I had the tyres fitted....even then a small area peeled on one wheel.
