had a race off the lights with a bmw m5 last night in my lcr (not the new 500bhp one).
The guy was sat at the lights pressing all his buttons on his computers and gear box to change all his settings with a big grin on his face, he got a better start but after bout 50 yards i just pulled straight past him, he looked so dissapointed id just creamed his 60k car :p. we ended up at about 140 when the lights infronnt of us turned red ! only just broke in time!

sorry no vids or pics

Other than a button to switch the traction control off I don't think M5s ( apart from the new one which is like a space shuttle ) have any settings...

I suspect he went from 1st to 6th by mistake and that's why you beat him

I doubt he really got to 140 anyway, that's just the speed the silly boy racer in his silly spoilered up car did to try and impress his mate in the car ( Thoughts of the M5 owner ;) )

mr_claypole

may the farce be with you
ironically, a couple of weeks back i raced a black M5 at the turnarount bit near work, obviously he was faster than me (in my mk4 cupra,) but there wasnt a huge amount in it.. and he did look a bit upset that i was able to keep up with him a bit..

saying that, we didnt go over 65ish mph, and he would have murdered me if we'd gone any faster.. but even so...

i think lots of people think that if you spend 10 times as much on a car you get 10x the performance and sadly this isnt the case...

reminds me why i drive a cheap car that bumps around, rattles, but goes like stink :)

Is this a 'big up the LCR thread!' ?? lol

I have been in an E39 M5 at it will murder my LCR off the line or a rolling start.
They are not as heavy as you think!

My 2p worth is your living in dream world if you think a LCR is anywhere close to an M5!

One of my best mates has a 2001 E39 M5. They have 5 litre v8 with 400bhp at the fly are 6 speed manuals only with fairly early generation traction control system and sport button that improves the steering/throttle reponse.

Its in another league of performance to any Leon and I should know!

There are a lot of E39 wannabe M5s.. the four tailpipes are one of the easiest way to tell a reall one from a lookalike fake. The awesome engine note is the other.

He deffinately didnt go from first to sixth cos it was quite a close race and he was constantly looking to the side to see our postion so he was trying, as i said earlier i dont think it was an m5 based on what ppl said prob just a 540 with m5 badging.

I think going from first to sixth is the only way it would be a close race...

I get beaten off the line by most stuff, even the bus, maybe that is why my tyres have lasted so long?
Personally, I never try to race anything, it just isn't worth it.
You will never know how hard the other driver is actually trying, and how good a driver they are, so really there is no point. If someone wants to get past me bad enough I let them, I don't want an accident.
Leave the competition to the race track.

i disagree i think someone will either try there hardest or not try at all and its generally pretty obvious which one of the two they are doing, if your going to race someone y would you only try a little bit? other than to say well i didnt even try, after they've beaten u?

No, you can try to beat someone up to a certain speed, i.e. the speed limit and then then stop. There's no point in losing your license for "playing" on a public road. If you want to race, then do it on a race track where the only person you're going to kill is yourself and not others.

thats true but as far as im concerned that would fall in to the clearly not racing catagory as it would be very noticable if someone suddenly stops accelerating at the speed limit, the bmw i raced (m5 or not) clearly had no objection to going over the speed limit.

You do realise you're just digging a deeper hole for yourself with regards to prosecution don't you? The IP addresses for every message are logged and I'm sure the admins will quite happily co-operate with the police if asked.
