That's the one between the EGR and the intake manifold. In the end, I'm glad I checked, as that's far more likely to be the cause of a boost leak than the gaskets underneath, but at the same time, it's frustrating because I've got a full day and I doubt I'll be able to get it and fit it today. I don't think Halfords do that size either, so I can't even do a quick fix.

It's only been in there eighteen months. I'm guessing the last time I took the EGR valve off it must have got caught and ripped.

EDIT: Just managed to get some from eBay. OEM ones are something like £6 each, but I got five Viton ones - which should even be higher quality and more temperature resistant - in the same size for £10.

Looks like I'll be cycling for the next few days.

I have seen them on the place I got my rear locks,look same as well, you’ll be on Gretas Christmas card list how as your cycling Lol

I was kind of hoping I might be able to find the one I took out last year, as that wasn't actually damaged, just squashed flat, but it's not in either of my parts boxes, so I'm just going to have to wait.

Luckily I love cycling - it's just a shame that my girlfriend lives at the top of one of the biggest hills in Brighton.

Fortunately, I was able to find the eBay e-mail from last year when I bought the o-ring and could look up the part number from that, which is N90927302. Most of the measurements are coming up as 62x3mm, so I just ordered a bunch of those. It's getting pretty handy to have not just the parts numbers, but information that's going to help find an alternative when the OEM parts aren't as easy to find. One day I'll make a spreadsheet, but that seems a bit involved...

The good thing from all of this is that it looks pretty obvious there was a boost leak coming from the EGR valve, and judging from how dirty the EGR pipe was - especially at the top - it looks like there's been something getting through there too. Once it's all sealed up nicely, I might actually get that nice torquey acceleration again.

Mine was pritty coked up but not so much the flange face but still had too oven cleaner the gaskets , I thought that was were the air gets sucked in but it’s opposite as the valve opens and sucks though,
That part number will be handy will find the part and save it too my eBay just in case.

Yep - I'll use some Mr Muscle on the metal gasket and re-use that one. I didn't realise until only a little while ago that the one that's missing a piece isn't actually metal, but is the fibre one you were talking about that goes on the EGR cooler. I think I swapped them over thinking they were the same, with the plan of changing the one that was easiest to get to. Now I know they're actually different, I'll put the fibre one where it should be and use the metal one under the EGR valve.

It could all do with a clean as well, so I'll have a go at getting all the mating surfaces clean too when I put it all together. The EGR pipe looks really nice now it's had the Mr Muscle treatment so I'm hoping everything will go together really well. Getting that third bolt on the EGR valve nice and tight is always a nightmare though.

Did you only remove 2 gaskets? As there is two metal gaskets each end on the small metal pipe under the egr you removed

Two gaskets on each end? I've only ever had one gasket on either side. I did a bit of a search and it sounds like a bit of a lottery as to how many you get - someone on TDI Club didn't have any at all from the factory... Crazy...

yea one each side of small and one on the egr with o-ring ,mad, unless its been off before that person probably found out due to air leaks

Came home to some new o-rings today and decided to clean the metal EGR gasket. Came up nicely so I'll be putting all that in and back together tomorrow.

Looking forward to giving it a bit of a thrash, if I'm honest. I can't see that many other places there might be an issue with boost leaking, so hopefully this time - THIS TIME - it's going to work.

I 100% agree but i reused a couple of them on my old PD and they were ok.
Depends on your luck i guess.

I had no idea such a thing existed, but it does make a lot of sense.

I've taken it out a few times but it seems to have been OK so far. If when I put the car back together I get the same issue as before, I'll get a new one.

they don't crush the pipe centres the gasket but they still need holding in place so you don't kink them , both stainless ones i took off just needed a clean with no damage its the fibre one that needs replacing if there is damage

put a pic up after you fit the o-ring too the egr they look not as wide here, but got tobe better than the broken one, also why you bought so many you get a deal or something or bought in bulk ? lol
