Court fee's can get expensive so if i were the seller I'd be looking at refunding whilst you have the chance. It will be far less in the long run.

Yes they are forged but I'm going to keep them mate, they should be able to handle the power im after and besides im absolutely skinto.
I have been informed that the TSR are actually made in the same place as the IE rods and they will be fine.
JE dont actually make rods lol.. I just got a bit exited when I was buying it and wasnt thinking staight.

Right had a bit of a fiasco today! Was taking the last few pistons out and I gave the crank a quick spin to check that it turned freely and the was a stiff spot with a metal on metal feel.. after a bit of poking around I decided it was coming from the bellhousing. Soo...
Everything stripped and Gearbox out.. It turned out that a pressure plate bolt was just catching on a high point of the bell housing, It would of eventually worn away and not of been a problem but at least I know what it is and it can be ground away to clear.
The build seems to be going backward rather than forwards these days! But its all fun and games.. and atleast it gives me a chance to give the box a lick of paint and possibly a Diff

Even more bad news just as I think things cant get any worse, checked the piston ring gapping and they are over 0.7mm when they should be around 0.2mm.. Time to whip the engine out
You might get away with a set of rings and a light hone in situ.
To be honest with the questions over the engine you bought i would also check the piston / cylinder clearance. Is there any signs of wear in the bore ? It may be the original engine builder was a bit rough and opened up the rings too much.

The engine is only held in by about 4 bolts at the minute and for the sake of undoing them I would rather take the engine out again so I can work on it in the warmth of the garage as winter approaches.. (also I dont want to leave a 90% stripped engine out in the elements.)
I will checking all the tolerances when its out to completely satisfy myself and also replace anything that needs doing.
With regards to the bores I have not yet got round to checking the piston clearance but it is on my list. But no there are no obvious marks on the bores or the pistons so fingers crossed..
One things for sure it will be getting a light hone and new set of correctly gapped rings as there was evidence of blowby on the compression rings..
It doesnt bother me too much as atleast now I am in complete control of the build and I have peace of mind.. It is starting to bother my wallet though lol

Nothing wrong with doing it in situ .
You're doing the right thing though mate I wouldn't want to have the worry of something going wrong when all you've found is problems with the engine. Keep going though looking great.

james your rods look the same as my IE ones. they might be IE heres mine only just found this pic
Haha Cheers Joe, my initial plan was to do it in situ but as you say, its problem after problem with this engine and its a lot more comfortable to work on an engine with full access in a garage than on my back underneath the car in the freezing cold!!

Got a bit bored tonight so I decided to give the pistons the once over..

And after some cutting compound
Might give them a buff on a wheel tomorrow but that's enough polishing for one day.

The top lip sit flush with the top of the bore and the but the dish is quite low to add some extra volume to the combustion chamber as the are 8.5:1 compression ratio.

I bet your enjoying building this so much I'm pretty jelous. I have nothing left to do lol
And as for my pistons i really don't know what ratio they are or what different ratios mean or do. You know to much James. I enjoy learning from your thread.
