Clicking noise from the drivers side arch (bare with me on this one!)

Ok a weird one this (i will stop asking stupid questions soon i promise lol)

Once my Leon has settled down at tickover there is a constant clicking coming from what looks like the pressure release charcoal thing on the left on the inner arch on drivers side.

Now my dads octavia did this and he took it back to the dealer, who told him all 1.8t's do it, its fine and its nothing to worry about (something about injectors)

However, My mate works for the parts dept at Listers Audi in Worcester who deal with a bucket load of 1.8t's etc and the tech guy says that the ticking noise is not common and shouldnt be hapening?!

What do you guys make of it, do any of yours make this noise etc??

Cheers

Chris

It usual for the 1.8 to click after turning it over. The sound should come from the top of the engine but it may be channelled down to the drivers side arch. As the engine heats up the sound should quieten down

Its not a mechanical click as if it is the tapetts etc, its more of a relat clicking, quite loud though??

Lol as for driving, i LOVE it, its getting through BP Ultimate like its going out of fashion lol

Nah its not a belt, its definately and injector/relay type clicking, i dont know what the 'black tub' thing is on the drivers side of the engine bay is, its a fuel tank pressure release thing i think?? I may be talking crap, but i need to satisfy my curiosity.

Yeh mine does that too,it sounds like its a fuel related thing as it is coming from that box on drivers side inner arch, only does it though if i leave it ticking over at idle for couple of minutes after its been driven.Sometimes does it when i first start it up too.Ive wondered what it is and what that box does too.Car is running well so i think it must be normal

Its the solenoid clicking gulping vacuum out of the inlet manifold for the carbon cannister. Its cycles.... sometimes on, sometimes off, coming in and out as it see's fit.

Does'nt sound like a fault.

Carbon Cannister - Thats the badger - charcoal (tit!) oops
Oh well i can sleep at night now :D

Just out of interest, are mostly peoples standard exhaust quite throaty/roaring when they come on boost? Mine sounds amaing and my dad reckons there must be a hole in the exhaust lol

You know when i wrote the title to this thread i deliberated for about 5 mins whether it was bare or bear with me lol
