not bad looking for the base models. but i'd never buy a base model car.
i'm sure the fr and cupra will be better.
that interior is shocking though and looks just like the ibiza's.
not sure how long i can wait for the sporty versions. may look at the mazda6 mps when it comes out soon. 2.3l turbo 260bhp AWD!!!!

TBH, I really doubt the FR will look that much different, maybe a different bumper/grille arrangement, the now obligitory Silver mirrors, alloys and perhaps a more exciting rear bumper but that will be it.
I like it... and I don't like it. Verdict can't be made until I've seen one (and driven!). Most new cars seem to be heading into the same trap of this "bubble" "mpv" look. Out of those, the new leon looks good. The question is: do I like the look of this new trend?......

The argument SEAT put forward for costs on why it didnt appear on the production Altea sounds like Prime BS. A plastic composite window wouldnt have a high cost and distortion wouldnt be a problem as its not very useable. It sounded at the time, that this element was too sporty for the Altea,,,,which lead me to believe it would stay on the Leon, one of the few noticeable differences.I'm sure once in the flesh, the differences will be more noticeable, the tumblehome (curvature) of the body is different to the Altea too, and that doesnt always come across in pics

Looks great in black, shows off all the lines really well. Cant wait for the official launch. I want to go to the dealers and have a proper look round one. Also most importantly, cant wait to see the prices and various options/models etc

I have to ask this, no offence to anyone, but what is wrong with you people. How can you take a car as stunning, imposing, and brutal looking (more reference to the Cupra R) with such a high waistline and aerodynamic nose and honestly be pleased at it's replacement with a vehicle which looks like an MPV. The Cupra R in particular was a stunning vehicle with a great deal of road presence which certainly turns heads everywhere it goes, yet the new vehicle looks fat bulbous and vulgar. I think seat will be making almost as big a mistake with the new leon as subaru did when they replaced the legendary impreza with a 'Newer & Better' model which looks like something which should be sporting a Hyundai badge!!

Thing is. i'm still undecided if I like the old Leon or not. The rear end of it put me off buying one when I got my Ibiza...it just looks as though someone chopped the boot off a Toledo...
and it IS beginning to look dated.
However, I do like the new Leon...much as I like the new Golf, the new A3, and the Altea, and i'd say by the time the new Leon Cupra comes out, a lot of people will be thinking the same. - you can't compare apples with oranges, or an old Leon Cupra R, with a new Leon 1.6... (well you can, it just doesn't make sense).

Its nothing to do with six year old looks, just some things shouldn't be changed, just developed. Also, most people don't buy a car based on how well the designers can make it look like a van!

it's lower than the current leon - and longer too I beleive
so you could say it was lower & sleeker
with a better chassis & improved safety
or you can just be 'happy' thinking your circa 1998 chassis is actually up to modern standards

Isn't the new Leon wider and lower than the old one? As has been stated hundreds of times in this thread already, there is new legislation/guidlines and whatever now for pedestrian safety and they are pretty much guiding designers as to how new cars look. Look at the 307, Mazda 3 etc etc, they all have the same shape due to this. Many many people now buy cars judged on how safe they are so this has to be taken into account by the manufacturers.
I do like the old Leon a lot, hell i bought one! However as has also been stated quite a lot, it IS looking dated now and the technology certainly is in comparison with some of the newer cars. Although the new Leon is quite different to the old one, i still like it a lot and one thing in its favour as i see it is that the base models now look quite intersting in comparison to the old model. Perhaps i see it as an Alfa without the concerns of reliablity/ build quality - it looks a bit different to the norm and certainly stands out compared to the Golf/A3 etc

Well, all I can say is I'm disappointed. I am hoping to by a brand new (but not this new shape) Cupra R in October this year, however, if it's replaced before then, my money's going on a new Astra VXR.
