i have one of these gauges, they match really good with the clocks and the red illumination. although it doesnt seems to be brilliant quality.. seems like mass produced in china but it does the job and seems to be pretty accurate.
get the wires at the back and just give them a tiny tug or push gently into the gauge itself where the wires go through and watch the needle move. had to watch when i put mine in that when the wires were at the back of the pillar mount they wasn't being put under pressure pushing on the gauge mechanism.
lighting now sorted! one of my connections was a bit ropey. Colours look nice and match the dash well...

they are for my car mate, its best to get hold of a multimeter (£8 from maplins) and check it. Red is Constant 12V, Grey/Yellow and Grey/Blue are switched 12v (g/y are sidelights and b/y are dipped).
Needle is lit, just not very bright which is my fault as the needle wire is fed from the wire to the backllight leds instead of switched source. Will change this when I get time
I wired them up to the dimmer switch
just swap the wire from the dimmer to the back of the light switch then the one which was on the light switch to a perm live
