Ahh well I'm over it now :)

Not sounding too good for the box :( how much are you looking to spend, you can get SQS gearset for around £1350 which will fit in the 02J casing....

I'm guna need to cut and polish mine once it's been reprayed *cringe*

Im hoping its not the box and its something else tbh, but really the power im running surely standard box should be more than capable?

Tbh if it does the break ill just be getting a full recon box this time and an LSD sounds very tempting at least for any future power upgrades ;)

I have a fully rebuilt recon box but it cost me around £700 in the end in which case not sure if it's worth going the extra stage and getting the SQS gearset, I'm pretty sure that's not going to shear off - plenty of meat on them! Hoping for you mate that it's not the box because it's a real PITA every time you have to change it over...

LSD is a must too ;) I am yet to get mine lol. Will be interestingto see what difference it makes. Your box should be fine with the power you're putting through it, how are you driving it though? Hard 24/7 or are you treating it like a women, letting her warm up first then ragging the tits off her?? ::cartman:

Tbh its always treated like a woman lol

Always warmed before i let loose and since ive had the new turbo etc its rarely been driven hard full stop.

I did get the gearbox for £120 lol but im still hoping it isnt that.

Theres a knocking/flapping sound coming from underneath when driving, reason i though gearbox and not suspension is jut how it sounds with the revs etc

Although it does not disappear if i put the clutch in and coast or put it in nuetral and coast so im not sure.

Its a strange noise and is quite loud

Left wheel also has a whine noise which i though was the wheel bearing but its done it for 9 months now and still hasnt got any worse lol even after 9 months it still sometimes doesnt do it which i think is wierd for a wheel bearing

Checked CV joints/ driveshafts although shaft should be fine. Also ball joints on wishbones would be next on my list. If it's CV's they be worse on full lock and reversing, might be worth a check. Mine clonks every now and again still haven't sorted it although not too bothered by it at the mo. It will be sorted soon! ;)

Havent checked underneath yet, still trying to get motivated to go out lol its -5 outside ha

Although most underneath has been replaced in the last 6 months

Ball joint on the wishbone is possible though, ill look there first even though it passed the m.o.t just before the turbo was fitted lol

Can anything rub from being too low? arb on driveshaft or anything?

Its a constant knocking sound when im driving thats all and it doesnt clunk or anything when i turn

Not quite that bad here! Hmm it can only be something to do with the running gear as it only makes a noise when driving...

As fot things dragging I though the sump was the lowest part of the car behind the bumper. Does sound more like a wheel bearing, have you checked play in the wheel when it's jacked up? Other than that what about shock absorber?

Yer well i have a new wheel bearing kit which im going to have fitted and see whether that cures it, wheel bearing may explain the brake warp issue i have too!

Last few days i had been thinking about selling up in march/april time and moving onto something new :ban:
But its too good to get rid of, the first car ive owned and cannot justify getting rid of!!

Would be rude not to finish a project though ? lol

Anyways i have a list of parts to buy after christmas
Christmas bonus is already spent now :)

Brakes will be first on the list
Brembos (cupra r) should be good enough i think

Think one of my engine mounts may be buggered
So uprating the engine mounts and gearbox mount too

Any thoughts on which ones to go for??

Thats Christmas bonus spent lol

Im seriously considering getting a gt28 setup now to have some summer fun and a nice project to do.

Im not sure what else will be needed ontop of my current mods though

Turbo
Manifold
Oil/water lines
Injectors (LCR or bigger??)
3" maf
Obviously mapping tweeked by Jabbasport
Rods!!

Anything else??

Just weighing up costs at the minute

Ooooo sounds like a good idea methinks :) It's expensive! lol but depends how long you aim to do it over, all at once is likely to blow the majority of peoples bank balance whereas if you buy a couple of things a month then you should be able to spread the cost - like myself :)

You'll need to add an inline fuel pump for that. Walbro 255 is good option. What power are you looking for there's some very good injectors out there, Seimens Dekka 650cc are very good. LCR ones are likely to need uprating if going BT.

Pistons will meed replacing if you're toying with around 400bhp rods are a must at 300bhp ish.

Ideally for the turbo if you can get a kit that's best then you don't have to worry about oil and coolant lines, the oil feed needs a restrictor in it too - around 1mm IIRC.

For air flow a 3" exhaust is also a good idea, again power dependent though I think 2.5" is alright for up to 350bhp before it starts restricting... a custom 3" downpipe is also going to be needed. Personally for mine I'm getting an AFR gauge and wideband probe put in the exhaust as well as an EGT probe so I can tell if anything is going wrong...

Need any more?

550cc will be fine for gt28, i bought all mine at once and yes ive seen balance go down rapidly , but will be well worth it lol. joe thought ud no afr gauge is a must have anyway lol. i got my oil restrictor off fello member gazcupra plus there only cheap any way under 10bucks lol

yeah thinking of going gt30 now bro just cant make my mind up lol, better be quick tho as im going for mapping soon and dont wanna throw money away lol

Cheers for the info Joe

Tbh im not sure big big bhp will be the main goal so pistons i may be able to avoid.

Anything over 300 would be a good figure but nothing over 350 personally.

Im guessing a GT2860 would be a better option for me over the GT2871 for the above figures

Things i have already could be sold on to spend on the setup too so in the long run it might not be a majorly expensive job, still not cheap mind but it would be a project spread from now until march/april in buying parts so its definately tempting!

Lol definately a wise move to decide now and not after youve had the gt28 setup lol

Only reason I said 650cc was because at least if you wanted to go more power you wouldn't have an issue whereas if you get bigger injectors you the FPR and map will control the amount of fuel. If you go bigger and the injectors are too small you'll run lean ;)

I have a mate who has an Audi TT Quattro 1.8T with 330bhp and a GT2860RS. Very smooth drive and goes like mad running 2.2bar quite often! Then again he is a tuner [B)]

Think Backbraft do a kit for Ibiza manifold included etc...
