Got the exhaust and downpipe today but disaster struck :(

3 of the 4 downpipe studs have snapped

Soaked in WD40 till tomorrow where im hoping mould grips will allow me to turn them out

If that doesnt work then the turbo will have to come off

When i fitted the k03s the standard nuts and studs came off fairly easy after being soaked

These studs are only 6months old as they were fitted brand new when i put the k03s on

I officialy hate the downpipes on these cars!!!

They are a complete biatch Berg :( I spent about 5 hours undoing the 4 nuts :(. I'd say best bet would probs be to get a nut splitter and try and split the nuts, I have loads spare if you need some, all OEM :)

All the nuts are actually off mate as the studs snapped clean off on 3 of them, the 4th came off easily.
The nuts look like they have warped as they are odd shaped, might explain them not coming off?

Just got to get the (half) studs out the turbo now :(

I do need to get some new nuts and studs though, the dealer wants nearly 8 quid for just 1 nut!!

Ahh bad luck mate, when I took mine off the studs actually unscrewed out the turbo lol
There so expensive because they are have a special locking thread like a nyloc but obviously nylon would melt at the temps.

Check your PM I have some nuts and studs here for you I believe... Can you remember if the nuts were quite hard to get on the studs? Nuts almost seem to be out of round :-/ maybe that's the nyloc equivilent James was saying about

Everything that could have gone wrong has this weekend!

Managed to get 1 snapped stud out of the turbo, the other 2 are proving difficult and i think the turbo is going to have to come off :(

Today i had the boss welded onto the downpipe all went well but the thread has been stripped on the boss :(:(

Not sure if he spilt weld on and tried screwing something in there but i need to get the hole re-threaded now.

Not a major issue though, and he didnt charge me at all to weld the boss on either.

Just puts more delays on things!

On another not, ive noticed where the gear lines run under the heatshield the rubber casing round them have very badly melted, theres melted rubber everywhere.

Is it worth heat wrapping the dp while its off the car?

Same with mine, literally so bad the linkages seized! Heatwrap the exhaust and the linkages! Well worth doing.

It gets pretty mucky under there with melted rubber :(. I wrapped the linkages individually and used cable ties for those, then wrap the exhaust and use the metal ties that are supplied, they're good. I would off you some of that too but I need it when going BT, everything's going to have to be wrapped lol.
