Hi Tell. I recently got a leon and this updating the sat nav is totally new to me. I checked the version and it starts 6P0 which makes it a mib2 standard? 3 yrs out of date though. I'm pretty clear on the update method, it's just which file to use. In post 1993, bundle 1 direct link. If i save and use that file will i be ok?

SCOT. I always say this one now since it's a like for like All Europe bundle. At minute no need to take the zones. It will give you the 5F part number but dont worry and use the workaround.

All European Bundle

Albania*, Andorra, Austria, Belarus*, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina*, Bulgaria*, Croatia, Cyprus*, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia*, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Island, Italy, Kosovo*, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Macedonia (Former Republic of Yugoslavia)*, Moldova*, Monaco, Montenegro*, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania*, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia*, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine*, United Kingdom, Vatican City

* in parts

But it doesn't work. Trust me. There are a set of system back up tools for Windows OS but none of them touch the CID its out of range of the Windows operating system. I did post one up once but it didn't work further research showed you can't do it with Windows OS. That's why Exciter the guy behind the work around went to Ubunto / Unix but this was one of his explorations on how it all worked. Not critical for the task. It's on thread in 2017.
I just giving you my experience. It worked for me, might not work for all. I was using a Windows 10 pro OS.Recycled SD Seat Nav card. This update is great, just got back from my 120 mile commute along A34 / A43 and no crazy diversions off the road. Well happy, thanks Tell for all your work.

So can I update via a SD card ?

Yes and NO. All mib2 factory fitted and sold in the UK don't have Mapcare on them. The standards have the so called workaround option, the high's which you have are well and truly locked out from map updates by encryption keys. That stops you editting the upload to the unit which would be on an SD card to the internal SSD.

Well all VAG cars were like this unless Mapcare was offered as an option. Never offered in the UK. About £120 as a one off fee in Europe in some countries including Ireland. Vag group have now abandoned Mapcare on all their brands except Seat worldwide so they can update to their hearts contents.

In Europe on Seat if you don't buy it for £120, it costs you about £600 after the event or about £300 for one off maps. Now retrofit units which are sold have retrofit software where you can update the maps. It's patched firmware so you update via the backend menu. Put that procedure on the Ateca thread, somebody asked. Basically these retrofits have been fitted across the Vag range across the world for some time but obviously less need for other Vags these days.

So you find yourself an outfit that can turn your unit whilst you wait into a retrofit. Takes 2-3 hours of programming. You might have to travel across the country for that or pay for them to come to you or extract it yourself. Walone and myself got it done. Obviously some risk. Only if you own the car would you do it. Only one company to my knowledge does this in the UK. It's a South London company, you see them advertise. The company are mentioned on this thread:

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/sw-update-for-mib2-infotainment-system.427280/page-20

Walone had sort out TMC afterwards, needed enabling, forewarned I got them to check and enable it. After that there were no side effects. I got put onto the latest H50 software so it was like having the My19 car infotainment on the My17. So that was nice.

Now that Seat UK are putting the high on the high-end cars only, there will be a fare few disgruntled people in the future who plan to keep their cars. It was an option previously across the range.

You need to copy the original overall.nds file on top of the new one replacing. One guy before replaced the other file as well in that directory getting directories and files confused....

Did a cold boot as well. If still no luck, I'd revert back to the back up files you made of the original SD card, test it and repeat. Obviously it has to be in the same level that the other one was e.g. fans out from the directory maps from the route, not from the root 00 and EEC - that would be wrong !.

Mac involved ?. Used 7zip on a PC ?. Special steps if a Mac is used and you are suppose to stick to using 7zip on a PC.

Going to be a simple mistake somewhere.

Your bought ebay Seat second card stuff worked because you suceeded in fumbling an update of the unit between the cards using the CID on the new card not by copying the CID from the old card since it can't be done in Windows - that's why your old card stopped working. The "workaround" doesn't require the purchase of a new card. You were told at the time you made it difficult for yourself by others by not following the workaround instructions.

It just confuses readers into thinking they must buy a new map card to do it (and pleases ebay sellers), when your original one then stopped working since you managed to action a card upgrade in the unit which you then replaced the contents of the data on the new card but not the CID.

Even with Unix / Ubunto it's not guaranteed that you can read the CID with all hardware. The SD reader must be on a PCI bus not connected via USB. The ability to read and write the CID is left out of Windows drivers specification.

That's why I know you didn't clone the CID from your old card to the new, you forced by one way or another a card upgrade in the unit. That's least how I remember your events at the time :).

Following Tells last post, I have to agree with him. I think I lucked out. I have been using a laptop with built in card reader. It would appear that a few can bypass the CID checks as they are connected directly to the IO ports. Please follow the way Tell has said. I got lucky.

Im copying overall.nds over to the same place where the other one is, am I deleting the one that gets downloaded from VW or leaving it on there aswell?

I am sure Tell will confirm that you replace (delete) the one that gets downloaded with the new maps.

Ok Thanks.

Still not working..
I've encountered (got) the same problem, easily managed to update maps last time to version 1115 Nov 2018 (Full europe 13Gb) from what was originally on the car (May 2018) .

This time I downloaded Bundle 1 - vw-mapscdn.tdd.adacorcdn.com/DiscoverMedia2_EU1_1310_V11.7z
wondering if I should have downloaded the full europe version as previous.

Now in process in seeing if I can revert back to version 1115 successfully, and take it fron there.

Interesting well bundle 1 for the restricted set of countries and other bundle 1 all of Europe both work without issue on a my19 Arona.

Are we all using PCs and 7zip or if MAC doing the appropriate thing adviced by VW to ensure that MAC character garbage isn't getting through onto the card ?. Think Maypack is Mac but using the appropriate Mac unzip tool from memory and alternative to the VW suggested one.

That's why one needs to take a back up of the original card so you can revert back. As said you can dig out the matching original download overall.nds file if you got a picture of the original screen, we have done that in the past where people never backed up the card and lost the original key file.
