Clutch was dragging, bleeding didn't help,
view through the timing hole with a Lidl endoscope showed a wobbly release bearing & DMF.
Darkside Sachs 228mm kit has been sat on a shelf in the shed for the last seven years, so "how hard can it be?" popped into my head?
Tedious, about the same as the Mk2 golf GTD, but the larger drive flanges get caught on the flywheel, easier once you remove the engine sided flange.
Can't feel too hard done by as it's the original LUK 225mm kit, 255,000 miles. But I do go easy on them.
Result? New silent car, but the pedal is so light, it's like a japanese shopping trolley.

I'm not at all as confident or as competent as I once was....I was born around race cars and race bikes and have even rebuilt entire engines on the side of the road. Something happened though and now it takes me a lot of mental thought processing to build up to just doing the basics.
If you have the competence , the confidence and the time then go for it !! (By competence I mean have done your research, have the right tools, the right parts, allowed plenty of time, have a good and safe work location and a back up plan)

For me, it was age. So many of the jobs I've done over the past couple of years have been pretty physical, or else I've had to be on my back, kneeling down or otherwise bending or leaning a lot. These days when I do a job, I know I'm going to have at least a week of aches and pains after, and I've got to really work myself up to do it, whereas beforehand, it was a pleasure. Right now, it's about 60% knowing it's going to hurt the next day, and 40% knowing the job is more than likely going to throw up some crap I'm really not in the right mindset for. Even bleeding the master cylinder, I can feel my lower back tightening up.
Or maybe I'm just unfit. I've never had a manual job in my life (although photography can be a bit full-on sometimes) so that might be it, but it can really suck sometimes.
In other news, went out for a bit of a burn today to give the car a run before the MoT tomorrow. Took her up Devil's Dyke, which I think she enjoyed. Because it was wet, I also did a fair bit of hard braking to get the ABS to kick in. Can someone remind me if the ABS light comes on when it's activated like it does with the TCS?
Pretty certain I've still got air in my system - pushing hard on the pedal, I've definitely got that sponginess that feels like I'm compressing something. Don't know if I'm going to break out the Gunson or if I'll just pay someone to do it...
So its finally in from the cold and almost enough space to work on it .......well chuffed. Now need better lights , a heater oh and someone who knows what they are doing 
Wanders back out to the garage to check front of car.........
Picked up my front mount intercooler today. And with my dv refurb kit and spring got lots to do but no time!

I know that feeling of no time.. I am trying to mount the radiator, intercooler, oil cooler, power steering cooler and gearbox oil cooler the is radiators, ducting and vents every where
dropped her off at the garage to replace my wishbone bush as I cannot be bothered to do it myself lol.

Bruh my car hasn’t been tracked in nearly a year, and my suspension etc has been off so many times haha.
my rear tyres are toast and I’m getting new wheels soonish so I’m just gonna wait to get 4 wheel alignment

I thought mk1's didn't have adjustment on the rear?

Yeah I don’t think they have any in the rear and the 180bhp variants also have less front adjustment than the cast arms.
I dunno bunch of people told me to get 4 wheel alignment
